Youth Curator Camp - Martinsville, VA
Youth Curator Camp Virginia Museum of Natural History Saturday, December 19 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Curator Camp is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about the museum while participating in fun, hands-on activities and programs. Parents and guardians – this is a great opportunity for your children to experience a day of scientific adventure and discovery while you finish up any last-minute holiday shopping! Campers will meet the museum’s scientists and learn about real museum collections. There will be demonstrations of the casting and molding program, with children having the opportunity to create, paint and take home their very own fossil cast! In addition to these unique activities, campers will enjoy pizza and a movie in the museum’s Education Center. Price: $30 per camper (VMNH Members receive a 10% discount) To register, please call 276-634-4185 or email [email protected]. Registration deadline: Friday, December 4 Space is limited, so register today! Notice is hereby given that Miss Mary will be opening an academy for the instruction of young ladies at the residence of Judge Overton in Nashville, TN. Instruction will be given in the arts of sewing, dancing, penmenship and the general arts of becoming a 19th century lady. Campers will dress in period clothing and attend class in our historic buildings. Join us for this unique living history experience! 615-832-8197 x14

A one-day clinic offered either June 27 or June 28. Each participant will receive training specifically focused on the skills needed for their position. Players will be grouped by position for elite technique instruction. Maximum 20 players per court. 9188104066.0

Bring out your inner rock star! Build your own instruments and learn how to drum, jam out on the ukulele and then record your own hit song and music video! This non-credit review course is designed for rising seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. Successfully completing the course (and passing the summer reading quizzes and tests on any book studied in the class) will satisfy the summer reading requirement for students enrolling at MUS for the 2016-17 school year. These students will be exempt from the summer reading tests required of all other students in the fall, and the students will earn quarter points in the following way: B to A (85-100) = +3 C to B (75-85) = +2 C- to C (70-74) = -2 F to D (0-69) = -6 Students should purchase these three books before the class begins: "A Wizard of Earthsea", Le Guin (HMH Books for Young Readers: 978-0547773742) "The Golden Compass", Pullman (Yearling: 978-0440418320) "MAUS II", Spiegelman (Pantheon: 978-0679729778) 901-260-1300
