As kids grow and mature, they sometimes begin to lessen the value of imagination within the context of their writing. This workshop will teach your children appropriate methods by which they can explore creative writing in academic and non-academic settings. Most importantly, it will remind them to value and nurture their imaginations. Activities will include journaling, community creativity circles, character creation, short story drafting, and more. Fencing captures the imagination of kids of all ages, but it requires a trained, experienced instructor to learn safely and correctly. The Young Scholars Fencing Program is being run by the coaches of the Central PA Fencing Association. Coach Wes Glon, the Head Coach of the PSU Fencing Team personally trains and hires the coaches for this program. Coach Chuck has 40 years of fencing experience and has been part of the CPFA programs since 2006. Your child will learn the basics of sabre fencing with an emphasis on sportsmanship, safety and history. We make the learning experience fun and rewarding for the students. /GOALS: Month 1: - Fencing History: Olympic sport since the first Olympics in 1896, difference between Saber, Epee & Foil, French sport - Safety rules (fencing is one of the safest sport) - Basic footwork: advance (movement forward), retreat (movement backward) & lunge (movement to reach) focusing on the balance - Description of the Saber, parts of the weapon, how to hold it. - Footwork, coordination games Month 2: - Introduction to the gear: glove, mask, jacket & saber - Target area: 3 different area to cut: mask, flank & chest - How to cut using... 8142379727.0

This 3 week workshop puts an in depth focus on the skills needed to succeed in theatre and performance. Working with professional performers, directors, and teaching artists, students will receive instruction in Acting, Vocals, and Dance including: -script analysis -improvisation -monologue technique -physicality -breaking down lyrics -finding the story of the song -basics of a professional musical theatre audition -choosing songs that showcase YOU -finding a 16-bar cut -working with an accompanist -stretching and warm up -basics of musical theatre dance -moving like a dancer -dance auditions (how to make it out alive) The workshop culminates in a feedback audition to introduce you to local theatre professionals on Friday night as well as a student designed performance of skills on Saturday morning.
