Whether youve just started learning an instrument or have been playing for years, playing steel pan is fun for everyone! We invite all instrumentalists to come learn to play pan - from percussionists to tuba players, violinists to bassoonists! If youre looking for a new, fun way to play music, youll love learning about this Caribbean instrument from Trinidad and Tobago. Youll have a chance to try out all of the instruments - from the high lead pan all the way down to the deep, low tones of the bass pans. Youll work with your instructor to learn basics of playing steel pan and play in several ensembles with everyone at the camp. Wonders Science camps are hands-on fun from beginning to end! Participants will experiment with 50 hands-on projects throughout the week, including: riding hover-crafts, creating invisible inks, growing crystal gardens, steering 60-foot solar blimps, making rock board collections, floating hot air balloons, launching giant smoke rings, setting-off the ultimate Mentos geyser, building lava lamps, making glow-in-the-dark signs, casting fossils, and much more! Activities include: art, creative snacks, music and movement, games, Spanish, science, and sports. Do it all at Kaleidoscope. Themes: A Bugs Life, Around the World, Storyland, and Odyssey Under the Sea.. Each theme is presented in music/drama and art. Wear comfortable camp clothes and tennis shoes. Woodworking Camp - Germantown Friends School
Young carpenters will enjoy a safe way to practice woodworking as they design and build a different project each week. Under the direction of lifelong woodworker and GFS teacher Edmund Livingstone, campers will work individually and collaboratively to plan, measure, cut, build and decorate their projects using wood, paper, nails, rubber bands, and imagination! Their finished products will be works of wonder and awe. Students will incorporate measuring, drilling holes, and strategically positioning their nails in each unique project. They then will customize their creations with arts and crafts. Safety and proper use of protective eyewear will be stressed at all times. This is a great beginning woodworking class for students to learn to use tools and, more importantly, to develop a lifelong love of working with their hands! Woodworking is a morning-only camp and participants may wish to stay for either Ceramics, Mandarin II -Golden Dragons Camp, or the Explorers Day Camp during the afternoon session. For Boys and Girls grades K-6. We are very excited about our location for the Summer!! This camp offers a combination of traditional sports games like floor hockey, soccer, basketball, flag football, handball, wiffleball, physical education activities such as tag games, pinball, battleship, virtual space tag, north south, gold rush, capture the football, and various cooperative games. We ask that our full day campers bring a (peanut butter free) snack and lunch and water bottle, and our half day campers bring a peanut butter free snack and water bottle. Children are divided by age into small groups and will participate in developmentally appropriate activities for their groups.
