Afternoon: Pirates with a Purpose Robotics have taken over the Pirate world. Well-seasoned students and crew design robots ready for adventures and excitement. The life of the pirate is searching for hidden treasure, protecting your gold and stealing others prized possessions. Can your pirate crew steal the other crews treasure and return it to your cove? Maneuverable robots will be tested as they race against the clock and other pirates. Variations of Capture the Flag, Race Against Time, Obstacle/Maneuverability Courses all out Pirate Wars will be held with a robotic spin. Come for the treasure… Stay to watch losing pirates walk the plank. Note: Even though between some weekly sessions there might appear the same program names, in our actual education program, we will have different depth of technology and engineering principles to be applied by our children under our inspirational guidance... Spend all day playing music in the redwoods, and have a great time singing, dancing, watching Song of the Sea in the meadow, sessioning and improv-ing every night! Before dinner in the late afternoon the pool is open as well as the volleyball court, ping pong table, basket ball and tether ball. Program includes all meals and boarding. Struggling with basic math computation? This class is designed to help close the gap to success with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using manipulatives to strengthen concepts. This camp is appropriate for students with remedial skills. Two separate classes are offered: 1st - 3rd Grade & 4th-6th Grade *Please note: Students who are registered for a morning and afternoon camp within the same week are invited to stay for FREE supervised lunch and recess between 11:30 am-12:30 pm. Students should bring a sack lunch that does not require heating or cooling. Please note that lunch is not provided and students must be registered for both a morning and afternoon camp. 319-294-2036
2. Spring Camp: Maker - 5 Days - Gizmos & Gadgets Kids Lab
Gizmos & Gadgets will give both sides of your childs brain a really fun workout when we take BIG and MESSY and ART, combine it with DESIGN and PROTOTYPE and TEST and add a dash of EXPLODING SCIENCE and then wrap it all up with an awesome BATTLE of the CANDY MACHINES. In this creative and educational camp we will immerse the kids in those projects you would never dare attempt at your house (the messier, the better is our motto!). We will let them think big and expose them to all dimensions of Science, Art and Engineering all in one fun camp. Each day the kids will use the systems engineering process to define, design, prototype and test amazing builds. During the week the kids will build their own candy ( or anything!) dispenser! This is no cardboard dispenser – this is the real deal! Kids will make their dispenser out of wood by creating their own design. They will hammer, saw, drill or however they want to put it together, that really drops out candy (or anything cool like marbles!)
