“Teen Sexism, Self-image and School Success” with Campbell Leaper, PhD
Adolescents today face the competing demands of doing well in school, being popular, developing close relationships with friends and romantic partners, and appearing sexually attractive to others. Each of these challenges is affected by stereotypes about what is considered desirable or undesirable for each gender. Sexism occurs when these stereotypes constrain the self-image and aspirations of girls and boys. What are the most powerful influences in teen sexism – family, peers, school, music, social media. How are these influences and the stereotypes they promote affecting teen relationships and school success? Do you worry about their effects on your children? Campbell Leaper, Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, and co-founder of the Gender Development Research Conference, is an expert on gender ideologies, self-concept, sexism, and gender bias in schools. He will talk about the ways that gender stereotypes affect girls’ and boys’ self-image, relationships, and school success. Most importantly, he will discuss what adults can do to mitigate sexism and the negative cultural influences in our kids’ lives. Teen Rock Band Camp - Beacon, NY
Ages 13+ Tuesdays after school Sept 20 - Dec 6 All you have to do is join and you're in a band. Just like that. In our Rock Band Boot Camp for teens you start playing together on the very first day and you don't stop. It doesn't matter how much or how little experience you have. You'll learn how to rock out with others. While rocking out with your peers in the rehearsal studio, you'll get better at your instrument and develop your skills—and your swagger. At the end of each rock camp session you will put on a show that parents, family and friends are invited to attend. 12 weeks (No meeting Thanksgiving week) Tuesdays, 5:00-6:30

One day camp event at To The Stage! Fun for non-theater students (and of course, theater students!) Brand NEW MYSTERY Game: A Summer Camp Mystery! "It's talent show day at Camp Ana-waka-weeeble-wobble-rama-lama-ding-dong.. Puppeteer - The Miami Valley School
In this imaginative camp you will write, direct, rehearse and preform a masterpiece puppet presentation. Learn how to design, create and manipulate puppets. We will learn about the different styles of puppets, as well as set design, voice acting and stage etiquette. Expect a visit and performance from a professional Puppet Company! Incredibly Cool Photography - Old Trail School
Campers will turn their digital snapshots into real photographs, learning how to combine traditional basics of photography, (lighting, composition and style) and blend them into the digital age. Campers will learn how to tear apart a pixel in a digital darkroom and take a photo, even members of their family will like. This camp has plenty of outdoor activity. Campers should bring a digital camera, extra batteries, a USB cord to attach their camera to a computer and a CD or external jump drive to load and save their finished images. Max Lax Lacrosse - Wellington Gym
Max Lax is a co-educational sports camp that focuses on introducing children to the sport of lacrosse as well as other cooperative games. Your child will learn the basic skills of lacrosse and participate in different games, which will help with the development of those skills while also having fun. At camp your child will also play different team building and cooperative games such as capture the flag, water balloon team tag, lacrosse baseball, dodge ball and European handball. The campers will also have the opportunity to cool off from the summer sun on the camp favorite: Max Lax Mega Slip n Slide. 2016 NOVA Fishing Camp - Gunston Community Center
This week with Virginia Fishing Adventures offers campers the opportunity to learn beginner and intermediate tactics for freshwater fishing in nearby private ponds and rivers. We have access to some excellent private waters where campers are assured success. Our counselor-to-camper ratio is 1-to-5 to allow for one-on-one instructional time each day. Campers may also earn their fishing merit badge through this program. Safety is our number one priority, so campers will wear life jackets when in the water or on a boat. Virginia Fishing Adventures provides all bait and tackle, rods and reels, life jackets, and good times. Open to boys and girls ages 8-14. No experience necessary. 804-272-6362
