LATEST CAMPS NEWS: The Science and Art of Wax - Lyman Campus
Ages: Girls and Boys Entering Grades 7 - 10 Dates: July 5 - 8 Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Format: One-week session Location: Laurels Lyman Campus in Shaker Heights Tuition: $320/session From candles to cosmetics, colorful canvases to clothing, there are many wonderful ways we use wax to beautify and enrich our lives. What is it about wax that appeals to our senses of touch, taste, sight and smell? Beeswax. Paraffin. Soy wax. Gel wax. In this camp you will learn how to work with wax as a creative medium that is as versatile as clay or metal. You will also explore how wax is made and how the very different chemical and physical properties influence what it is best used for! Campers will create their own candles, practice wax resist techniques and will even learn the age-old craft of encaustic painting (using melted wax as paint). Each camper will mount or frame one work of art for display. 216-455-0154
