FCYD Camp is proof positive that being diagnosed with diabetes means you have to live a sheltered life. We tried to tell that to our daughter all the time but she never really embraced the idea until she found herself surrounded by kids in her same situation. Returning to Teen Camp - undefined, CA
In the summer of 2014, I did something I never really thought I was called to do: work with TEENS. Being 21 at the time, I still considered myself one. Me? Being paired up with a 14-year old girl? Confronting normal teen issues paired with the difficulty that comes hand in hand while being in the foster system? Definitely a challenge. Not just zip-ling fun and games. (Also, I came home with crutches that year. FROM TRIPPING IN THE CAFETERIA. Hangry?) However, seeing how camp is something these kids/teens look forward to every year and how a weekend in the woods reminds them they are loved and adored is invaluable. Being with older and wiser counselors also inspired me because seeing the way they love unconditionally inspires me to not be selfish with my time and personal ambitions. These kids, this camp. It means something. A safe place with the ability to change lives long term. I'm proud to say that I'm returning to Teen Camp this year and it would be amazing to share the stories from last time with you (when I get a blog post up.) 1st Session - Crochet / Knitting/ Paper Folding - YSCP
Instructor: Ms. Anamaria Here is the summary for the club. Below it is the summary for me: Crochet/Knitting and Paper folding In this club we focus on learning basic crochet or knitting techniques. This includes learning how to read charts. Students choose between knitting or crochet to start. They have option of learning the other later. Squares are the main building blocks for all of the projects. Projects will be up to the students to choose. They range from a scarf, book cover to a basic shirt. There will also be small non-square projects like mustaches, flowers and balls. Focusing on squares gives participants a quick project that can easily be completed during club time after the first few sessions. It also allows for lots of color without having to change or join yarn. Small projects like these can easily be done anywhere. The possibilities are endless for completed projects. A completed scarf can easily become a blanket later on if they want with the simple addition of more squares. This is a great introductory experience for your pint-sized campers. Your littlest camper will get to engage in the fun and faith building of camp while under the care and supervision of our trained counselors. Embers stay Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. 360-734-7652

Family and friends are invited to an end of camp Performance and Reception on Friday, August 5th at 5:30pm. Dancing, acting, singing! Campers will collaborate with professional artists to create a dynamic original performance while learning skills in Broadway movement and vocal technique. This camp will emphasize basic skills, playing as a team, and sportsmanship. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of basketball in a setting of encouragement and confidence building. Drills to improve skills will be added, and games will focus on team play and tactical understanding. Price includes $45 lab fee. Does your camper enjoy watching Chopped or Iron Chef?" on T.V? Using recipes from around the world, Sous Chef is a perfect adventure for any child who loves to eat and wants to learn to cook! Activities and cooking experiments allow aspiring chefs to explore the science behind cooking and try different foods, while learning cooking basics. Chefs will bake, prep food, follow a recipe, stir-fry, use a slow cooker, sauté, churn butter, discover changes in food properties, and make ice cream.
