Youth Curator Camp Virginia Museum of Natural History Saturday, December 19 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Curator Camp is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about the museum while participating in fun, hands-on activities and programs. Parents and guardians – this is a great opportunity for your children to experience a day of scientific adventure and discovery while you finish up any last-minute holiday shopping! Campers will meet the museum’s scientists and learn about real museum collections. There will be demonstrations of the casting and molding program, with children having the opportunity to create, paint and take home their very own fossil cast! In addition to these unique activities, campers will enjoy pizza and a movie in the museum’s Education Center. Do you like tricky riddles, perplexing puzzles and baffling brain teasers? Give your problem solving skills a mind bending workout in this years Mystery Madness Camp. Well crack puzzles, unravel riddles and by the end of the week solve… The Big Mystery. By looking at the mystery from different angles, studying the clues and using our skills of observation, well deduce, decode and demystify our own Duke School whodunit! Home School Comes Alive with Shakespeare - Location: Center for The Creative Arts
For the Shakespeare buff or novice this is a fun yet educational program as we make history come alive through performance of a Shakespeare classic. This year we are adding a new dimension in that we will take one of his classic tragedy plays and add a humorous twist. While the play will keep with the essence of the original storyline and characters, students will find this play highly entertaining to perform. This truly unique course is especially designed for the home-¬schooled that incorporates history, literature, and performance. History comes alive as students create and act out their interpretation of imaginary and real characters during Shakespeares time. Students will also learn performance skills as they practice techniques for stage acting along with the wonderful experience of performing an adaptation of one of Shakespeares classic plays. Plays under consideration are Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet with a twist. A fully staged performance will be presented for family and friends at the conclusion of this course. Adventure Tennis Camp - Off Site Location
Tennis 3.5 hours per day Adventure 2.5 hours per day During the first part of the day, campers join our regular tennis camp and have lunch. Children will be divided by level and develop tennis strokes, rallying skills, and age appropriate competitive play. Campers learn teamwork, make friends and enjoy fun games like Angry Birds Tennis, Skyball, and Big Kahuna. All camps feature Higgins Bucks, Water Fun Day (no swimming) and the Higgins Bucks Store where children buy prizes on Fridays. In the afternoons we set out on an Adventure! Adventures include: Flyers Day: Build a kite or glider and fly them at Blackies Builders Day: Make a Native American mat or basket, or a model airplane Hiking Days: Along Blackies Shore and up to "Hippie Tree" Board Game Mania ACTIVITY OTHER CATEGORY 3.
