Week 8: Day Camp Assistant Training (Leadership Development) - Camp Tanadoona
Day Camp Assistant (DCA) Training is the first step in Tanadoonas leadership development program. DCAs spend the first half of the week engaging in teambuilding workshops and interactive leadership training with lead camp staff. Training includes first aid, behavior management, specialty programming and basic counselor skills. DCAs immediately apply their training when they are partnered with Tanadoona Counselors to assist with Day Camp groups during the second half of the week. Staying overnight on Thursday to help with the Thursday Overnight campers provides additional experiential learning. We recommend a minimum of two years of DCA before progressing to CIT. 612-235-7284

Are you ready to do more at Ginger Cascades and become an important part of camp? In addition to all your favorite camp activities, you will have an opportunity to plan and lead a program for younger campers. You will learn new leadership skills, plan and complete a service project and go on two trips! During your first week, you will visit High Gravity Adventures Aerial Adventure Park in Boone, and then you will learn about the logistics of trip planning as you plan your off-site adventure for your second week! There will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy all the traditional camp activities you know and love from cascading to archery to campfire songs. Due to the nature of this program, girls must be able to swim two laps in the Ginger Cascades pool, tread water for two minutes and weigh at least 80 pounds to participate. 336-274-8491

Campers will have an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of good ball striking and tee shots from lead instructor, Coach Pumford. Campers will utilize Trackman Golf Radar Systems along with V1 camera systems. Each camper will get an assessment of their game and a personalized improvement plan. In this transformational week, we will incorporate the sacred elements of nature, mindfulness, and ceremony to provide an opportunity for inner blossoming. We will be accessing the ancient wisdom of our ancestral grandmothers, making plant medicines, dying fabrics, and weaving with natural fibers. We will be accessing the deep and profound stillness that allows us to be fully present and fully ourselves. We will be celebrating life through creating earth art and body paints. All the while, the girls will be inspired by one another in a safe and supportive group setting.
