The Spring Eagles Fitness Program (03/14/2016 - 06/02/2016) is a gym membership open to all LAMC Students 16 years old and up. Must be enrolled in at least 1 unit in the current semester to qualify for the student discount. When you enroll in this program you gain access to the Fitness Center, Indoor Track, All Community Fitness Classes, and Locker Rooms. This programs price was a one-time fee of $45.00 for all L.A.M.C. students. NOW $35.00. A 10% Discount will be applied to groups that sign-up 2 or more people within the same transaction. Adolescents today face the competing demands of doing well in school, being popular, developing close relationships with friends and romantic partners, and appearing sexually attractive to others. Each of these challenges is affected by stereotypes about what is considered desirable or undesirable for each gender. Sexism occurs when these stereotypes constrain the self-image and aspirations of girls and boys. What are the most powerful influences in teen sexism – family, peers, school, music, social media. How are these influences and the stereotypes they promote affecting teen relationships and school success? Do you worry about their effects on your children? Campbell Leaper, Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, and co-founder of the Gender Development Research Conference, is an expert on gender ideologies, self-concept, sexism, and gender bias in schools. He will talk about the ways that gender stereotypes affect girls’ and boys’ self-image, relationships, and school success. Most importantly, he will discuss what adults can do to mitigate sexism and the negative cultural influences in our kids’ lives. Camp Iredell Week 9 - Mooresville - lredell County Parks and Recreation
Camp Iredell is an exciting day camp offered 9 weeks during the summer. The program is designed to incorporate a wide variety of fun and educational activities, that change weekly. This program will travel 4-5 days a week, weather permitting. Activities may include, but are not limited to, swimming, guest speakers, crafts, games, environmental activities, and field trips (science centers, sporting events, etc). * Ages 5-11 * Monday-Friday, 9 Sessions. Pick the ones you want! * 2 Drop-Off & Pick-Up Locations: Statesville (East Elementary) or Mooresville (Mt Mourne School). Be sure to select the correct location when registering. * Sites open: 7am-6pm * Camp travels: 8:30am-5pm (4-5 days a week. SLAM SPORTS AND LEADERSHIP CAMP - Memphis University School
SLAM Sports and Leadership Camp offers students a chance to enjoy competitive play while participating in leadership training. This camp is for students who want an overall physical fitness and multisports camp experience. Each afternoon is divided into three periods, including fitness training and various sports and games. After being taught the rules and basic skills of each game, counselors and supervisors will move out of the spotlight to allow campers to choose and organize their own games. This process gives students a chance to take ownership of their own play and make the decisions necessary for a successful game. Camp instructors will supervise all activities, but campers will be required to resolve conflicts, referee their own games, and motivate one another to engage robustly in each activity. This is not a sport-specific program. Students will be grouped according to age and ability. They may sign up for more than one session. Cost includes camp T-shirt. 901-260-1300

Step into the well-worn shoes of a detective or agent and uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Explore forensic science through the eyes of crime solvers, using your powers of observation to reveal clues and solve cases. Develop disguises for cover, make and break secret codes, and create and use cool spy gadgets. A local police detective will join us for a discussion and demonstration during the week. 919-677-7839
