Fencing Camp: Foil, Sabre And Epee - McLean Community Center
No previous training needed. Often called ?the physical game of chess? and ?the noble sport?, fencing requires mental strength and quickness, and improves coordination, balance, speed and grace. Campers use the Foil (a light training sword) and are introduced to Sabre (the modern equivalent of the cavalry sword) and Epee (the modern equivalent of the dueling sword). Safety tipped swords, protective jackets, masks, and gloves make fencing one of the safest sports. Fencing camp taught by the Virginia Academy of Fencing Equipment rental fee: $49, make check payable to VAF. Camp is open to all skill levels of players. Campers are grouped based on age, ability, and experience. Each camper will receive instruction on the fundamentals of all strokes and will enhance their skills through repetition, ball-feeding drills, live-ball situation and competitive play. USPTA coaches Wilston Poon and Stanford Poon direct all sessions. Please bring a racket, new can of balls, snack, sunscreen, water, and hat/sunglasses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRIORITY ONLINE REGISTRATION (for Santa Monica Residents only) runs February 3 (6 am) through February 9. Non-resident registration opens February 10. REFUNDS - Refunds will be issued with medical documentation or if requested at least 5 calendar days prior to the first meeting. Refunds will be prorated. Its all about color and imagination this session, which will explore artwork by famous Modern and Post Modern masters like Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin and Pablo Picasso. These artists experimented with depicting the world using fantastic colors, and a bold and expressive style of brushwork. We will experience color in a whole new way while working in fine art materials, found objects, collage, printmaking, and more! Campers will be inspired to create their own wild and wonderful masterpieces.
