New-US Writing Workshop SII (11th-12th) - Francis W Parker
Parkers new summer Writing Workshops for students entering grades 10-12 offers students the opportunity to learn, explore, review and practice a variety of writing skills, including grammar, usage and sentence structures. These intensive, one-week workshops will help students fill gaps, develop comfort, and prepare for future classroom writing experiences. These workshops will be taught by members of the Francis Parker English Department Faculty. In the workshop for rising 11th and 12th graders, students will work in a variety of genres including persuasive, analytical, narrative and creative, with a special concentration on grammar/usage and the personal essay. This class is a crash course into the exciting world of stop motion! Students will discover how stop motion animations such as Wallace & Gromit and The Nightmare Before Christmas are created and explore the software, technology and theory behind them! Spacing, timing, acceleration of motion, project planning and execution will all be covered throughout the program, and use LEGO® to put each into practice. Every single class is hands-on and by the time the program is complete each student will leave with their own original stop motion animation! Act Out Loud! - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
Students will experience the process of creating a play from a simple idea to the performance on stage. They will get to pitch their ideas, help form and shape the storyline, write dialogue, create characters and perform for an audience. This unique class is ideal for any student interested in all the aspects of theatre. INSTRUCTOR JOHN WALDRON received his BFA in theatre from Virginia Commonwealth University. As an actor, director, and instructor, he has been working in the region for over 20 years. He has directed shows at Aldersgate and MVCCT. John can be seen in the motion picture Talk To Me starring Don Cheadle and was featured on Investigative Discovery show Who The Bleep!.
