During this camp week, we will have daily practice in following a process which should result in several creative writings projects. Each of the students writing projects will be evaluated. A big part of a successful creative writing class is being able to both give and receive constructive criticism; therefore, participation will be encouraged. Phyllis Monroe is a lover of anything related to language arts: words, phrases, clauses, paragraphs, essays, and formal research. Having taught all age groups- elementary, middle, and high school- she knowa that each grade/student will have different writing abilities; however, all age groups should follow basic guidelines for good writing. Art and Craft: In this club students will be learning really useful art and craft that will help them get interested in DIY projects. This club will help them come up with great project ideas that they can share with their friends and also enjoy making them. Bio: Hello, My name is Soma Datta. I am originally from India and I have been a resident of Happy Valley for more than 11yrs now. My family and I love this town. Let me tell you a little bit about my family and myself. I have a Masters degree in Plant Pathology from India and an associate degree in Labor Studies and Employment Relations from Penn State. I used to work with Young Scholars couple of years back and had a wonderful experience during my time there. My husband is a physician and works with Geisinger and we have two boys. Sajal, 19 has graduated from SCASD in 2014 and attends Brown University and Rohan, 13 will be starting 8th grade in the fall. I am extremely excited to work in the club! 8142379727.0
CHILDREN DINING ETIQUETTE - EDUCATIONAL EVENTS & SEMINARS
Whether youre eating at home, dining out, or having dinner with friends, good table manners for kids are an important part of every meal. When you teach your child good table manners, you are giving them important tools for social interaction that will serve them for the rest of their lives. Plus, laying the groundwork for good etiquette at the dinner table means your children will more likely become pleasant dinner companions for family meals in the years to come. This year, instead of the usual resolutions, why not make gathering the family around the dining table -- working on manners and proper eating etiquette -- top of the list. The session will be of 1 and 1/2 hours, children will be trained on a soup, a cutting protein and fake wine (grape juice). They will learn how to sit, table posture, hands position, utensils placement and usage, drinking from a glass, speaking, chewing and much much more. Animals, Animals, Animals! Make and bird out of a flat piece of clay or turn a clay bowl into a piggy bank. Campers will learn basic clay hand building techniques in this week of camp where kingdom Animalia rules supreme. Ceramics camps allow children to immerse themselves in clay studio studies ranging from basic hand building, wheel throwing, and sculpting. Campers will learn a variety of skills designed to fit the camp they are in. Ceramic focus campers will learn the technical aspects of recycling, slab work, build a simple kiln from a metal trash can and firing pottery in it. All under the guidance of a professional potter and the fire department. Clay adventures offers a beginners taste of experimenting with clay.
