Reading Rockets is a program designed to be an early intervention for students going into first, second, or third grades. The goal of this program is to provide additional support for students who could benefit from reinforcement in reading skills over the summer. As of 10/26, this session is SOLD OUT. Sign up for Track 1 Session 4 soon! Elementary Engineers Theres nothing truly elementary about the engineering skills that these future builders will acquire – not to mention honing their problem solving skills. It all begins with using KNEX to create our simple machines. Future engineers will learn to problem solve as they build a variety of amazing simple mechanisms as well as be encouraged to build their own discoveries. The possibilities are endless! Call it physics! Call it STEM! The kids will call it AWESOME! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flyin Fierce Ever attempted to fold that perfect airplane, only to realize it was a better wad of paper? Ever had that urge to fold up that quiz that you didnt do so well on and send it ripping across the room, only to realize youd probably end up sitting in detention for your fine flight! Well have no fear, join Club Scientific for Flyin Fierce where it will be expected that youll fold a phenomenal flying machine and if you cant, then well show you how. Animals within a food chain have some ultimate adaptations for hunting and survival. Learn about apex predators like orcas, sharks, giant squid, and osprey and find out some incredible strategies the prey of these predators utilize to avoid detection. Analyze the animals in the NESS touch tanks for interesting behaviors and dissect a shark. Includes: dissection, 1 boat trip, & snorkeling 860-535-9362
Sports Camp week 5- Basketball (ages 5-12) - Orchard Park Recreation
During the first hour of basketball camp, children will focus on the fundamental skills necessary to excel in the sport including dribbling, passing (chest passes, bounce passes, and overhead passes), shooting (jump shots and full shots), and man to man defense. Agility and hand eye coordination will also be emphasized. During the second hour, children will be able to eat a healthy snack and then participate in a series of cooperative games that will enhance their capabilities of being a good teammate and showing good sportsmanship. The third hour of basketball camp will focus on the basic rules such as traveling, double dribble, charging and blocking, as well as the duties of each position. Additionally modified games of basketball and cooperative games such as knock out, PIG, around the world and 21 will be played during the last hour. As the skills of each child advances, the third hour will consist of more realistic game like situations and a mini tournament based upon age group. Equipment will be provided. New This Year! Get moving with the basics of ballet, combined with fun creative movement activities! Students will be introduced to the structure of ballet with classical music, along with more free-flowing dance as well. Open to all genders. Ballet slippers are recommended but not required.
