“Teen Sexism, Self-image and School Success” with Campbell Leaper, PhD
Adolescents today face the competing demands of doing well in school, being popular, developing close relationships with friends and romantic partners, and appearing sexually attractive to others. Each of these challenges is affected by stereotypes about what is considered desirable or undesirable for each gender. Sexism occurs when these stereotypes constrain the self-image and aspirations of girls and boys. What are the most powerful influences in teen sexism – family, peers, school, music, social media. How are these influences and the stereotypes they promote affecting teen relationships and school success? Do you worry about their effects on your children? Campbell Leaper, Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, and co-founder of the Gender Development Research Conference, is an expert on gender ideologies, self-concept, sexism, and gender bias in schools. He will talk about the ways that gender stereotypes affect girls’ and boys’ self-image, relationships, and school success. Most importantly, he will discuss what adults can do to mitigate sexism and the negative cultural influences in our kids’ lives. Kid's Do Strollfit - Norman, OK
Join us after class for our special, annual Kid's Do Strollfit Class. All kids are welcome to bring a push toy (stroller, lawn mower, grocery cart, etc.). They can put a doll or stuffed animal in it to ride around. After class, the kids will do their own verson of Baby Boot Camp - Norman. It is sooooo cute. They learn so much by watching us, why not let them show off? Older Kids (usually age 3ish...), here is the list of exercises you can teach. Moms, please work with your child and help them show the exercise to the group and then do 5 reps. Sebastian: High Knees Whitely: Burpees Lanie: squats Cooper: push ups Who else wants to teach??? Just let me know and I will add them and their exercise. Also!! There is a prize for the best decorated push toy!!

Boys Sports Camp with Coach Tom Myran - Germantown Friends School
The focus of Boys Sports Camp is on learning and competing in team sports, including basketball, soccer, baseball, flag football, floor hockey, and volleyball. In addition, campers also will take part in a variety of traditional games such as dodge and whiffle ball as well as individual sports such as tennis, wrestling, and track and field. Team-building, self-awareness and interpersonal skills will also be a focus. Our passionate and professional coaching team under the leadership of GFS Boys Varsity Track Coach Tom Myran will help participants become more skillful and confident athletes. Even more importantly, campers will have a terrific time making new friends and bonding with their upper school athlete-counselors whose job it is to reinforce the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and doing ones best on a daily basis. Swims at the Germantown Cricket Club add to the summertime fun! Advanced Computer Camp - Pi Edition - Transylvania University
Experienced computer students are given the opportunity to work on advanced projects. This camps theme will involve the Raspberry Pi computers as a low-cost experimenters platform. Morning and afternoon programming sessions will begin with a short lecture, then you will be allowed to address several challenges in response to the topic covered in the lecture. Learn at your own pace, but instructors will be available to help if you have questions or problems. Evening sessions are reserved for independent work and network gaming. During camp, participants will live in a Transylvania residence hall and eat three meals a day in the dining hall, beginning with breakfast on Monday. Campers can also use Transys library, computer laboratory, and recreational facilities. Internet service will not be available in the dorm rooms. Campers must have attended a previous Transylvania computer camp or taken some programming classes at your high school. If you do not have this background, please consider registering for our Introduction to Computer Programming Camp, scheduled for June 12-17. Enrollment is limited to 35 campers.
