Become a safer, more confident, and experienced cyclist. Explore the paths in Vasona Park and along Los Gatos Creek Trail from end to end. Take breaks to investigate life along the creek. Practice and improve your bike skills, such as panic stops, avoiding obstacles and navigating steep grades. Learn how make sure that your bike is in good working order and complete some basic repairs. Experiment with gears, examine the inner workings of bicycles, and learn some biking physics. Look at different kinds of bikes and see what they are designed to do best. Participants must bring their own helmet, two-wheel bicycle with gears and be comfortable riding up and down hills. [] This summer, for our first session of the day, the ALL NEW "Power of Drawing!" summer classes will take you on adventures to places, spaces, and other worlds with specialized drawing workshops. First, we zoom to the farthest reaches of the galaxy with our new friend, Sketch, and his colorful cast of cartoon friends! From astronauts in jetpacks to out-of- this-world alien lifeforms, our students will learn how to compose well-drawn cartoon figures in dynamic poses. Then we tackle a world of monsters, creatures, and creeps - from furry to scaly! For our adventure in Color and Design, each student will create a personalized Japanese kimono, an Escher-like graphic, or a study in primitive art. For the last adventure of the day, all artists will choose either still life drawing or portraiture as a study in technique. We will explore fine art (realistic, stylized, and abstract), graphic design, and cartooning using pastels, colored pencils, and professional marker techniques that will enhance ones analytical and perceptual drawing skills! INSTRUCTOR BIO: KEELY KIRK stepped into the improv abyss at a tender age and found a place to be herself. She began training with Mental Floss, a Miami-based improv/sketch troupe which performed at the Coconut Grove Playhouse until Hurricane Andrew blew it all away. She went on to be a principal performer for over ten years with Laughing Gas Comedy Improv --Miamis longest-running improv theatre company. She then decided that Miami was just too warm and balmy and moved to Chicago (the improv epicenter), where she was involved with and trained with IO (formally Improv Olympics) and Second City. While in Chicago, Keely decided to follow President Obama to Washington D.C., to become his presidential jester; however, due to government cutbacks, she was furloughed.
