What Are Specialty Camps Like?
These programs focus on a specific interest or discipline. For example, there are academic and technology camps for gifted youth or organizations focused on computer science, programming or science. Leadership camps help youth learn about public speaking, event planning and community service, and band- or art-focused camps provide advanced training in the arts. Some of these specialized programs have an extensive application process and are competitive. There are also camps that focus on specific religions. Some parents want their children to explore their faith around like-minded children, so they send kids to these programs.

Little Stars (July 25) - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
This camp is a special introduction to acting that gives each child a chance to shine! Whether your child loves to do "shows" in your living room, or you wish they felt more comfortable expressing themselves, in this camp every voice is heard. We use creative movement and fun acting games that boost confidence and help build the body-mind connection. With a camper to caring counselor ratio of 4:1, there is a lot of individual attention. Confidence grows as children share their ideas and impressions, working collaboratively on their skit. Each week there are improv games and fun activities that help with concentration and observation skills. During the week campers sing and tell some jokes onstage, build a shoe box set, and paint the scenery for the show. Each day campers practice and prepare for their skit on Friday. We laugh a lot! INSTRUCTOR ROBERTA MASTERS-CULLEN has been teaching childrens classes and camps at the Little Theatre for seven years. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild specializing in radio and television voiceovers, and has been a television news anchor and reporter. Roberta teaches acting at Burgundy Farm Country Day School and in the Alexandria City schools program. 7036835778 x2
