Children love being outside playing in the soil, and they love exploring how plants grow in a garden. Join us as we channel your childs natural curiosity as we learn about flowers and edibles from planting to plate. This camp will include a variety of projects plus tastings of a variety of plants and plant parts ranging from roots to flowers (these are all things you normally eat.). Come to Gardner Camp for hands-on learning about wildlife and animals of all kinds. Nationally renowned World Bird Sanctuary will be at GC to present a live animal program where you will experience an up-close view of animals from all kingdoms. After learning about the different types of animals and the signs that animals leave behind, participants will test their investigation skills solving a mystery and go on a tracking adventure, weather permitting. Participants will also walk away with their very own handmade wildlife tracks t-shirt. Within this program, there is also a giveback opportunity to help World Bird Sanctuary. From butterflies and beetles, to birds and buttercups, and more! Flora and fauna abounds in this secluded historic garden; there is so much to explore! Camp will be held outdoors when weather permits, as well as in Van Vlecks spacious and air conditioned Education Center. SummerARTs fantastic teaching artists will teach camp sessions, and projects will include a variety of fine art materials and methods such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more. Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work and celebrate what they have learned with family and friends at a closing reception held at the end of each session. Do you enjoy telling stories with pictures? Do you love looking at childrens books and picture books? If the answer is yes, then youll love Illustration Camp. In this week long camp, we will learn about the process of illustrating a story. We will discover our imaginations, learn basic techniques, and develop an understanding of designing characters. Teresa Assenzo is an Instructor of Fine Arts at Saint Marys School. Ms. Assenzo has a B.F.A from Kendall College of Art and Design, an M.F.A. in Fine Arts from the California College of Arts and Crafts, and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. She has taught at Western Michigan University and has worked with children of all ages at art museums and institutes. Ms. Assenzo has also illustrated and published books for parents and children, has done free-lance writing, and has done art and writing with diverse groups of children and adults.
