LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Woodworking II with Rick Jacobsen - The Philadelphia School
Bring your creativity, enthusiasm, and community spirit as we spend a week immersed in woodworking! Campers will learn about a variety of tools and techniques as they turn original project ideas into reality. Students will also participate in a service project partnering with students at the St. Aquinas Center in South Philly. Possible projects may include constructing a stool, a box, a bookshelf, birdhouse, musical instrument, a game, and more! Campers will work individually and collaboratively to plan, measure, cut, build, and decorate their projects using basic hand tools. Safety and proper use of protective eyewear will be stressed at all times, as campers work with saws, drills, chisels, hammers, and screwdrivers. Woodworking experience is not required; all that is needed is a desire to learn new skills and have fun! Early drop off is available at no additional cost from 8:00am-9:00am. Annual Camping & Kid Fish Event in the Park - W.m. Brook Park
The annual camping and kid fish event will be held on June 5-6, 2015 at W. M. Brook Park. Registration will be held on Friday, June 5th at 6pm followed by a hot dog supper, movie in the park (The Goonies) , and campfire fun. Participants can then go camping or fishing. Kid fishing will occur through Saturday, June 6th until 12pm. Awards and presentations will be given out from 12-1pm. For more information, contact Micky Tower at 512-734-1076.

*NOTE - THIS CLASS IS FOR EXT DAY STUDENTS ONLY. CLASS IS HELD FROM 3-4pm* Class meets on Wednesdays on the following dates: 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, & 5/19 Introducing students to the fun of science through hands-on interactive experiments, adventures, and entertainment. We develop curriculum allowing students to experience how science works in the real world -- presenting programs in a nurturing, encouraging environment where students build self-esteem while learning. Club Scientific lessons help engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts. Intro to Programming - Duluth First United Methodist Church
COURSE Campers will be using a software program from MIT called Scratch. The program was designed for children, and teaches them the basics of programming as they create animated stories, video games, and interactive artwork. Capital Ultimate Camp - Tilden Woods Local Park
Ages 10-15: Capital Ultimate Frisbee Camp is a fun alternative for kids who want an active camp but are tired of the same old sports. Ultimate Frisbee is a fast growing, fast paced game that combines skills used in sports like soccer, football and basketball. campers totally newto Frisbee will learn the fundamentals: catching, throwing backhand, forehand, etc. More experienced players will sharpen and extend those skills, plus learn defensive skills, field positioning and more. Every Camper gets a disc, a microfiber athletic shirt, and a CUC hat. We provide a daily snack but campers bring their own lunch. The camp site has changes as of Feb. 11, 2016; camp will be held at Tilden Woods Local Park. Acoma Bears A, Full Day - Hopkins Campus
Join Camp Acoma Bears for a summer of action, creation and relaxation in six unique sessions. Local field trips serve as capstones and opportunities for more hands-on learning and adventure. A foundation of Camp Acoma is developing strong relationships with other campers and counselors. Blake faculty and counselors who are caring role models with unique talents lead Camp Acoma. Our counselor-to-student ratio is below 1:8. Dedicated arts and physical education faculty deepen athletic and artistic experiences throughout each session. Please pack a nut-free lunch, afternoon snack and water bottle for your child each day. Refrigerators and microwaves are not available. Camp Acoma Bears takes full advantage of Blakes rolling acres, pool (Hopkins campus only), gymnasium, ice arena (Hopkins campus only) and nearby lakes. Each session offers hours of swimming lessons and water-based activities. A personalized swim assessment guides the instruction of each child and Red Cross Certified lifeguards serve as instructors. New or reluctant swimmers will be guided gently in water adjustment and learn-to-swim exercises. Ice skating in Blakes arena will be offered twice a week (Hopkins campus only). Acting and Auditioning Studio Workshop - The Georgetown Palace Theatre
This 3 week workshop puts an in depth focus on the skills needed to succeed in theatre and performance. Working with professional performers, directors, and teaching artists, students will receive instruction in Acting, Vocals, and Dance including: -script analysis -improvisation -monologue technique -physicality -breaking down lyrics -finding the story of the song -basics of a professional musical theatre audition -choosing songs that showcase YOU -finding a 16-bar cut -working with an accompanist -stretching and warm up -basics of musical theatre dance -moving like a dancer -dance auditions (how to make it out alive) The workshop culminates in a feedback audition to introduce you to local theatre professionals on Friday night as well as a student designed performance of skills on Saturday morning.
