LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Vocal at JazzFest Jazz Camp-Commuter - Augustana University
This year, a new vocal component has been added to the camp! Vocalists will learn to sing with an ensemble, combo and develop jazz singing skills. Special lessons will be available such as style, interpretation, vocal technique, introduction to music theory, scat singing and more. Plus, top vocalists will be featured with the jazz combos at JazzFest! Space is limited for vocalists! Vocal applicants will have to audition before final acceptance Audition Criteria: 1. A standard jazz tune (Fly Me to the Moon, Stormy Weather, etc.); please bring a copy of the sheet music for the accompanist 2. Auditionees will be required to perform range and tonal memory tests. 3. Auditions may take place in person on the campus of Augustana University with Dr. Russell Svenningsen, by submitting a private YouTube, or audition via Skype. 4. To set up your audition, contact Dr. Svenningsen at: Tuition includes a camp t-shirt, lunch and dinner, some fun evening activities, plus a JazzFest pizza party! *A commuter is a camper who is not sleeping on campus and does not eat breakfast. 605-335-6101

Escape From City Life
Canyon Creek is just about an hour’s drive outside LA and I’m really glad we took our kids. They learned a lot about several different sports and seemed to be really excited when we picked them up. It is near a large lake and is a beautiful area. The camp was huge and had many sporting facilities. All of the equipment seemed to be new and the camp counselors were great with the kids. Science Beach Camp Week 2 - Roundhouse Aquarium
Time: 9am-12pm Ages: 4-10 **pick up and drop off will be on 11th St and Manhattan Ave, near Beckers. Robotic Dog & Photovore - Wow Science - Voorhees
Using cybernetic principles pioneered by Norbert Wiener (1894-1964), campers will build a robotic dog that can walk, sense obstacles and navigate around them, and perform other tricks. Herbivores eat vegetables. Carnivores eat meat. A photovore seeks out the brightest light. Campers will build a robot that will turn and roll to locate and bask in the brightest light possible. When it finds the brightest light in a location, it will stop and emit a purr (or burp) to show that it is content. NOTE: THIS PROGRAM RUNS MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FOR A HALF DAY. FRIDAYS ARE FIELD TRIP DAYS AND ARE THEREFORE FULL DAYS. UNLESS THE CAMP DIRECTOR GIVES YOU AN EARLIER ARRIVAL TIME, PLAN TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AT 9:00 AM ON FRIDAYS. Opti Race (Session 1 AM) - NESS
Prerequisite: Opti Green Fleet/instructor recommendation Students will work on more advanced boat handling techniques, including roll tacks and jibes, and will be introduced to more racing tactics, strategies and techniques. Sailors will learn what it takes to progress to the next level of Opti racing and will be expected to compete in local Opti regattas where Red, White and Blue fleets are formed by age. Having your own racing level Opti is an advantage at this stage and students are encouraged to bring their own boats. All students will be under the supervision of our race coach in class and at specific local regattas. Last summer we supported and coached our sailors in 7 local day-long Opti regattas and expect to support about the same number of events this year. Regatta fees are not included. 860-535-9362
