Youth Curator Camp Virginia Museum of Natural History Saturday, December 19 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Curator Camp is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about the museum while participating in fun, hands-on activities and programs. Parents and guardians – this is a great opportunity for your children to experience a day of scientific adventure and discovery while you finish up any last-minute holiday shopping! Campers will meet the museum’s scientists and learn about real museum collections. There will be demonstrations of the casting and molding program, with children having the opportunity to create, paint and take home their very own fossil cast! In addition to these unique activities, campers will enjoy pizza and a movie in the museum’s Education Center. 3D Printing and Stop-Motion Animation (24405A) - Cary Academy
Be your own stop-motion animator and director. Learn the ins and outs of stop-motion animation, filming, and 3D printing technology. Work as a team to choose your characters, write your script, build your set with the help of 3D printing technology, and film your movie. 3rd-5th Grade Division (Machine Pitch) - KC Geiger Park
Grand Lake fall softball league is now accepting registrations forms. The league will start on August 21st and will play five weekend doubleheaders. The league is open to girls in the 3rd through 12th grades. The league will be divided into three different leagues: 3rd -5th will play in a machine pitch league, 6th – 8th graders will play in the jr. high division and 9th to 12th graders will play in the high school division. The cost is $100 for High School players and Jr. high players. The 3rd to 5th grade division is $79. The deadline to register is Aug 1st. Learn the necessary skills for competitive volleyball at this camp. Camp focuses on passing, setting, hitting, digging and advanced strategies of the game. Technovators: Remote Control Projects and Game Design - Kentlake High School
Get a double helping of technology. First, build remote-control, motor-driven animals and vehicles using LEGO® components. Then, create their own computer game using Stencyl® software, one of the newest and best ways to create games for a computer or mobile device. In the morning, create "Nessie," the Loch-Ness creature, beautifully detailed versions of the the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing Fighter from Star Wars®, a funny-walking spider, and a twin-motor vehicle that you can quickly transform into a turtle! Students learn about motors, gears, hinges, wheels and axles, and more! With their remotes, students race and send their creations on missions. In the afternoon, make a platform style game where characters explore levels, gain prizes and avoid enemies. Students learn level design and how to add events and actions, scoring and displays, physics, and sounds in the gameplay. See your game come to life, while learning skills that can help start your development as a game designer!
