It’s my new year!”–Spirit Quest Teen Camper Spirit Quest for Teens is for 13-17-year-olds, who are moving into young adulthood and who need a safe, nurturing place to reflect on where they have been, where they are going and who they are becoming. Camping together, teens develop deep connections to their selves, their peers, their elders and Nature through --council circles, --team-building games, --nature-awareness activities and hikes, --poetry and art --movement and improv --drumming and journeying --sharing in meal preparation --solo time in nature --fire ceremonies and sweat lodges --mediation and yoga Life-long friendships are formed or deepened; issues of self-esteem and soul work are explored with a true honoring of each teen’s unique path. Costa Rican Jungle Animals Week 1 - Adat Ari El Day School
Explore the Majesty of Costa Ricas Jungle Animals & Learn Spanish Campers explore the dynamic jungle of Costa Rica. The colorful and intriguing animals are extraordinary and will magically ‘transport campers to the ‘jungle where it is super fun to speak Spanish. During this week campers get to build a large scale ‘time travel machine out of recyclable materials. Campers play active & quiet games, create, sing songs, act, dance, cook, play sports, and discover the joys of learning Spanish through various activities. Theme vocabulary includes colors, verbs, nouns, adjectives all about these animals and their unique features. CELEBRATION DAY: WEDNESDAY (always optional)- Go Wild Day Come to camp dressed in your favorite animal prints or animal tees. During camp choice time choose your favorite wild animal look for our special face paint activity! Notes: There may be options for arranging late pick up the same day. Analyze coastline changes, sift through ways to prevent beach erosion, and discover coastal ecosystems. Take the first exciting step in learning to surf by practicing your stance, balance, paddle technique, duck dives, and get a taste of riding waves. Gizmos & Gadgets will give both sides of your childs brain a really fun workout when we take BIG and MESSY and ART, combine it with DESIGN and PROTOTYPE and TEST and add a dash of EXPLODING SCIENCE and then wrap it all up with an awesome BATTLE of the CANDY MACHINES. In this creative and educational camp we will immerse the kids in those projects you would never dare attempt at your house (the messier, the better is our motto!). We will let them think big and expose them to all dimensions of Science, Art and Engineering all in one fun camp. Each day the kids will use the systems engineering process to define, design, prototype and test amazing builds. During the week the kids will build their own candy ( or anything!) dispenser! This is no cardboard dispenser – this is the real deal! Kids will make their dispenser out of wood by creating their own design. They will hammer, saw, drill or however they want to put it together, that really drops out candy (or anything cool like marbles!) Deep Space Robot Explorers - Goleta Presbyterian Church
During this week, we take campers to the edge of the universe on a variety of missions to make a distant planet habitable for humans. Campers explore the real science behind NASAs plan for Martian colonies and accompanying engineering design activities tied into space exploration. Deep Space Robot Explorers curriculum, Terraformers, has been developed by Carnegie Mellon Universitys Robot Academy. Using MINDSTORMS NXT and Terraformers software, along with videos and animations, campers learn programming, tackle building challenges, and hone their robotic and project planning skills. As an extra bonus, campers construct and launch two of their very own Estes Rockets.
