Summer Slide - Middle School
Are you concerned that your child may develop a case of summer slide or think year round school is an intelligent idea? This two-week program will allow your child to prepare for success in the following school year. The course is taught by Sandra Schwartz, who holds a Bachelors in Education with a minor in Mathematics and an M.Ed., and has been working in the North Merrick UFSD since 2008. Sandra currently teaches Computer and Technology at Camp Avenue School. Students are invited to take part in a comprehensive class designed to sharpen their skills by offering an ideal balance of instruction in math and creative writing to assist students in mastering these subjects. Students practice their math skills and learn new ones while having fun by engaging in skill building and problem-solving math games and activities. In addition, students are challenged to expand their creative writing boundaries and strengthen their composition skills. Villa-Parke Camp Group A 6th week Jul 18 - Jul 22 - City of Pasadena
This activity may not be registered for individually because it is part of a package.S.T.E.A.M. into fun with this innovative and dynamic summer camp. Villa-Parke Enrichment Camp creates an exciting learning environment that explores the five core concepts of the S.T.E.A.M. curriculum: science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Each weeks activities are based on a theme. For example, during Space Exploration Week, campers may take a field trip to the Griffith Observatory, base their art projects around the solar system, do astronaut training activities for fitness and learn space themed vocabulary in Spanish. Campers do wacky science experiments, explore technology and mathematics through Lego(R) robotics in the computer lab, complete engineering challenges and attend language lessons including American Sign Language and Spanish. The camp also incorporates traditional camp arts and crafts activities like painting, drawing and beadwork, as well as ceramics instruction and the use of pottery wheels. Daily activities include at least 90 minutes of high-energy physical fitness. Specialized sports instruction is offered for both tennis and golf.
