INSTRUCTOR: CALLEN ZIMMERMAN Textiles for Teens is a gallery-based program at the Brooklyn location of the Textile Arts Center. This hands-on class explores students personal artistic interests right in the midst of our Artist in Residence studios, and will provide full access to our dye lab, screen printing facilities, sewing machines, looms, & more. Students will be able to draw inspiration from the eight resident artists and designers evolving work in fine arts, fashion design, and home textiles, and gain insight into the endless possibilities within the world of textiles. They make car washes, even in winter...so put on your big boy/girl pants and drive out...snow or shine! All show vehicles welcome. FREE Chili. Awards at 4pm. Free admission. Trophies awarded for car, truck, motorcycle AND bicycle participation. $5 entry fee per car/truck, $3 per motorcycle and $1 per bicycle if you would like to participate in the drawings and awards. 100% of all entry collection will go to the Make a Wish Foundation. Still Life Painting - Palo Alto Art Center (PAAC)
In this fun and focused camp, kids will learn how to arrange a still life and paint what they observe. The camp will explore composition, color mixing, creating texture and patterns, and will review the masters of still life painting and their styles including Impressionism, Expressionism, and Cubism. Robotic Dog & Photovore - Wow Science - Voorhees
Using cybernetic principles pioneered by Norbert Wiener (1894-1964), campers will build a robotic dog that can walk, sense obstacles and navigate around them, and perform other tricks. Herbivores eat vegetables. Carnivores eat meat. A photovore seeks out the brightest light. Campers will build a robot that will turn and roll to locate and bask in the brightest light possible. When it finds the brightest light in a location, it will stop and emit a purr (or burp) to show that it is content. NOTE: THIS PROGRAM RUNS MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FOR A HALF DAY. FRIDAYS ARE FIELD TRIP DAYS AND ARE THEREFORE FULL DAYS. UNLESS THE CAMP DIRECTOR GIVES YOU AN EARLIER ARRIVAL TIME, PLAN TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AT 9:00 AM ON FRIDAYS. Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Kayak Geocaching! Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS. Use charts, compasses, navigation, and GPS to track your kayak path. Make an item to let other geocachers know weve discovered a particular treasure, participate in the first ever NESS geocache kayak trail and go geocaching in different locations around Stonington and beyond!
