Did you know that your favorite sweet treats are the product of an interesting array of chemical reactions? Tie on your apron! Its time to bake some sweet treats as we have fun learning about the science of baking and kitchen safety. Participants in this session will learn the science behind baking the perfect cookie as well as the proper way to measure and mix ingredients, kitchen safety, baking techniques, and how to overcome baking challenges as we make a different type of cookie each day (including at least one gluten free option). Ms. Suzanne Russell earned her M.S. in Library Science from Indiana University. She is the subject area librarian for Brebeufs Religious Studies and Science departments. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of serious injury and/or death of children. This camp is taught by those who respond to those types of incidents each day in an effort to reduce the numbers of injuries that occur each year. The camp includes sessions on bike safety, fire safety, 911 procedure, water safety, personal safety, electrical safety, outdoor safety and first aid - all in an informative and fun atmosphere. The knowledge campers learn will allow them to make the right decisions when faced with unsafe conditions. Safety Camp is intended for children entering 4th grade the fall of 2016.
