Students will create artworks inspired by the techniques and ideas of famous illustrators, painters and writers. We will study the works of Maurice Sendak, Hokusai, Frida Kahlo, Dr.Seuss, Kandinsky, Shel Silverstein, Mary Blair and more. Students will explore many materials and art techniques such as ink, textile art, collage, watercolor, colored pencil, stamping, and mixed media. All skill levels welcome. Materials are included. Summer Camps are no-frills, get-a-lot-done, fun-filled social events. We are trying something new this year! We will join Debi Morris at her campground, Traveler’s Woods. There will be no fee to crop and we will plan our potluck meals in advance. Camping is available – Campers with water/sewer/electric are $20.00/night; tents with electric plug are $10.00/night. Showers, a bathhouse, and a pool are available for campers. Optional Friday night add-on to camp. (Provide your own camper or tent, payment upon arrival.) Waves, waves and more waves! If you are a monkey and love being in the water and riding on waves, then this week is for YOU! We will be testing our water riding skills out on as many different types of boats & boards that we can. Boogie boarding, surfing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. This is the ultimate water adventure, testing your core, balance and fitness. This class has been specifically designed for ages 9 – 12 years old so no experience is necessary as long as you are comfortable on and in the water. We will teach you the basics! Become a coastal crusader as you explore the coastline by kayaking, boogie boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, and identifying snorkel spots through local chart navigation readings. Analyze coastline changes, sift through ways to prevent beach erosion, and discover coastal ecosystems. Take the first exciting step in learning to surf by practicing your stance, balance, paddle technique, duck dives, and get a taste of riding waves.
