Lexington Family Magazine Summer Camps & Activities Fair - Lexington,
Visit booths representing camps, afterschool activities, birthday party venues, health care professionals, schools and more at our 14th Annual Fair. The Fair will be held at Lexington Christian Academy at 450 W. Reynolds Rd. just across the street from Meijer and behind Fayette Mall. We fill both of the gyms at the school. Each booth will have a fun activity for kids while Mom and Dad chat with the professionals. You'll find giant inflatables, face painting, costumed characters, games and giveaways. While you are there you can enter your kids in our Cover Model Contest. Professional photographer Lucy Chesnut, of Glitter and Sawdust Studios, will take photos of all their smiling faces and we'll use those pictures to choose winners who will appear on the covers of Lexington Family Magazine in the next year. We have felt the detrimental impact of state sanctioned violence, which has led to too many of our children, parents, friends, family and community members behind bars. Nathan Benderson Park's Youth Aquatics Holiday Camp gives your child the opportunity to learn on the lake! Join Summit Schools staff and our community partners for a day on of fun, interactive activities at Learning Extensions Camp, also known as In-Service Day Camp. -Theme: Spring Break Science. Well explore, create, experiment, discover, and engineer all in the name of science! -Experiment with soil science and composting methods as the C.R. Solid Waste Agency teaches us about landfill engineering. -With the Cedar Rapids Water Department, well test water quality, PH levels, and more as we learn about the science of water. -Summits own art teacher, Miss Carol, will have us discovering the science of art through messy and fun art experiments. -Alpaca Fiber Arts will teach us all about alpacas and llamas as we create felted take-home soap and/or coasters. 7th-9th Grade film campers in are in for a fun and exciting hands-on introduction to the media arts in a beautiful natural setting. Start the week filming around the natural beauty of the Icicle Creek Campus, followed by two days of editing and post production. From concept to final cut, young filmmakers will experience each step of the creative process and experiment with new technologies. Campers will learn how to conduct a meaningful interview, handle a camera, set up a shot, record audio, and even shoot aerials from a drone. And once the footage is all gathered, of course, it all has to be organized and edited. By the end of the week, campers will have planned, shot and edited their own movie and well cap it all off with a family screening complete with popcorn! Programmable Speed Bots - Wow Science - Voorhees
Using iOS and Android devices, campers will program a robot to do many tricks, including pulling off ollies--a trick where a skateboarder or snowboarder can jump into the air without ramping off something else. This robot can pull off ollies, do a quick spin in place, speed boost while driving (called grabs), jump around like a hot potato, pull off wheelies, or rocket across the room and turn on a dime before zipping off in a new direction. All this as campers have fun mastering basic concepts of programming. Bring your cell phone if you have one. NOTE: THIS PROGRAM RUNS MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FOR A HALF DAY.
