The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, will be holding the 9th annual Safe Driving Camp for ages 15-17. The one day camp will teach new drivers about the consequences of distracted driving, the dangers of driving impaired, tips for defensive driving, skid recovery techniques, safety at railroad crossings, and demonstrate important vehicle maintenance practices. The camp will take place at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center from 9:00am until 4:30pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Anyone wishing to attend must complete the application and return it to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office either in person or by mail. Deadline for applications is Friday, July 01, 2016. Applications may be picked up at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office during normal business hours. Space is limited.

Cash bar. Door prizes and silent auction. We want to make this one of the largest events we have done for MDA and send as many kids to camp as we can at no charge to them. Express yourself! with Nelli Shevelkina Become an artist for a week in our art studios – dive into extreme sketching, painting, collage and sculpting. Work with different art media and learn how to create some art materials from scratch. Enhance drawing and painting skills by working on projects from observation. Discover and discuss masterworks. Experiment with many media choices and ideas from your imaginations. Projects include portraits, figures, sketching architecture and landscape outdoors, creating mini murals, collage, and 3-D multi media fabrications. Note: Includes a field trip to the Yale Art Gallery to view artwork and learn about several art media and techniques. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic hand tools, especially hammers, mallets, cutters, files, pliers and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to create works in metal.
