Entry-level robotics and programming. Campers learn robotics using LEGO® Education WeDo™. Our young creators build snapping alligators, race cars, talking birds, and spinning robots, attach sensors and motors, and then program their creations with the WeDo visual drag-and-drop programming software. Counselors guide and encourage exploration and trial and error field-testing. Instead of simply "snapping bricks together," campers are encouraged to think critically about how their robot design can be changed and to understand more complicated engineering techniques such as gear use, pulleys, and inclined planes. Campers will also complete a small LEGO® project that they will be able to take home. 805-570-1988

This is a celebration of the DC Reads community and the hard work of students and tutors for the 2015-2016 school year! Students from DC Reads schools will be welcomed to AU for a day filled with fun activities "around the world" and will end with a book fair and dinner in TDR! This fundraiser is to off set the cost for the families of children wanting to attend. Preteen camp is for any child entering 4th - 6th grade is usually $145. At the luncheon we will serve: Tom Guthrie's FAMOUS Pulled Pork, Beans, Potato Salad, Bread, Pickles, Onions and Dessert.

Throughout the week, campers will participate in fun games and activities, as well as visit the movies and take a field trip. Campers will need to bring their own sack lunch. Canvas Painting (ages 5-7) M-F 1-4pm - Meadowlark Community Church
Canvas Painting (AGES 5-7 for the PM) Explore the colorful world of paint with teaching artist Deron Cohen (www.deroncohen.com). We will be making at least two paintings over these 5 days. Through step-by-step instruction and demonstration, students will learn how to break down an image into its most basic shapes and transfer those shapes onto the canvas. We will also explore the Imagination as students are guided through a creative process that encourages experimentation while also re-enforcing all of the previous techniques and skills developed. Time permitting, students will be encouraged to make another painting incorporating all the techniques learned throughout the week.
