Camp Journey is an overnight camp focused on social skills, building friendships, teamwork, manners, and self-esteem. Camp activities include directed social skills instruction in a typical overnight camp setting. Camp Journey is available to campers age 9 to young adult with Moderate*, Mild, and HFA/Aspergers Syndrome. *A small number of spaces are available for campers that need more adult support in daily living skills, social interaction, and communication. With winter around the corner we need to insure the children of our community are taken care of! This elementary social skills class focuses primarily on the important social basics of building friendships, appropriate communication and peer group interaction. Emphasis is put on self awareness and enabling reciprocity with peers to further students understanding of how they are interpreted by peers. 713-461-7200
Treasure Hunting with Stamps! Letterboxing! - The Evergreen School
A week of stamp making, hiking and treasure hunting. Students will create their own stamps, follow directions, and find hidden letterboxes. They will stamp in and collect stamps from each of our daily hikes. We will even make our own letterboxes, write up the clues and hide them for others to find. Students will be hiking approximately 1-3 miles daily with plenty of time for breaks, lunch, play, and treasure hunting. Children must bring a lunch, a full water bottle, and should wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots. The class will be outdoors all day walking fairly easy trails. Join Mr. Chad Hamilton and Mr. Ben Spencer, both credentialed teachers, for their Back to School Boot Camp! The program combines academic tutoring and athletic activities. Reading, writing, and math skill building will be alternated with athletic activities to prepare incoming second, third, fourth, fifth & sixth graders. All curriculum will be aligned with Common Core Standards. Students will be given optional homework, needed literature and academic materials. Parents will be given an opportunity to share their childs needs prior to the camps introduction so curriculum can be individualized. Students will use the athletic activities and games to guide academic projects. Think calculating averages, graphing and sport related literature. Boot Campers will receive one-on-one and small group instruction!
