MVP Sports Camp (7-12yr) - Carver Community Gym
Maplewood Parks and Recreation is offering a fun sports camp. This exciting camp will introduce campers to different sports/activities each day and will teach them the basics with fun drills, games and activities from our experienced and energetic staff. This is a great way for kids to experience many different sports, keep them active, and allow them to have fun with others in a structured and organized camp, regardless of skill level or previous knowledge. This full day camp is sure to be a bright spot of the participants? summer! Snack will be served in the afternoon. Additional snack available for purchase (chips, candy, Gatorade, water, pop). Artists in Residence with Nelli Shevelkina & Connie Pfeiffer (Ages 7-14) - Young People
Express yourself! with Nelli Shevelkina Become an artist for a week in our art studios – dive into extreme sketching, painting, collage and sculpting. Work with different art media and learn how to create some art materials from scratch. Enhance drawing and painting skills by working on projects from observation. Discover and discuss masterworks. Experiment with many media choices and ideas from your imaginations. Projects include portraits, figures, sketching architecture and landscape outdoors, creating mini murals, collage, and 3-D multi media fabrications. Note: Includes a field trip to the Yale Art Gallery to view artwork and learn about several art media and techniques. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic hand tools, especially hammers, mallets, cutters, files, pliers and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to create works in metal.
