Registration for the retreat will be held on Saturday, January 30, from 3– 4 p.m. and will dismiss at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 31. The Teen Winter Retreat will feature many fun events, activities and programs. You will need to bring your completed health form and activity release form that is signed by your parent/guardian in order to participate. Please bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes as we will probably be taking part in some outdoor activities during the retreat. Creativity Camp - The Derryfield School
Investigate ideas, and discover creative ways of thinking through unique experiences with art. Through a variety of fun activities in and around The Derryfield School, Creative Campers will become more confident in their ability to observe, analyze, and problem-solve. Emphasizing the power of imagination and innovation, campers will be encouraged to create their own works of art using a variety of media and materials. Soft Ground Etching (3 classes) - Kala Printmaking Studio
An in-depth course exploring all aspects of soft ground etching and its combination with aquatint, chine colle, and drawing. Students will learn about line and tone etching, shape and texture transfer, and aquatint manipulation. They will create layered prints by the addition of a second plate to the one holding the key design. All levels welcome. Weve got a week to design motorized vehicles with LEGO® components that will take us around the globe in record time. Our projects and destinations include: •A speedy train to travel across the USA •An ultralight plane to fly from New York to Paris •A dunebuggy to race from Paris to Moscow •A dogsled to travel across eastern Russia •A sailboat to cross the Pacific and get to the finish line Students build motor-driven vehicles with LEGO® components, customize their projects and run them on missions. Our class keeps an eye on how our virtual race opponents are doing, and answers questions together at the end of each leg to gain extra mileage or place roadblocks to slow down the competition. This is a fun way to develop new building skills. Students learn how different vehicles work, how the size and placement of gears affect their projects power and speed, how pulley belts are used to transfer motion, how to make a trailer for vehicles, how wheels and axles work, and other science and engineering concepts. Wildheart Sacred Artists know their nature both within and without. Newborns arrive into this world with a purity and clarity so intense that it is near impossible not to fall into some divine joy when looking into their eyes. As they grow older, this clarity begins to fade as they develop a healthy sense of who they are and begin to define the world they are perceiving. At Wildheart, there is nothing more important to us than returning the power and clarity to childrens eyes. Nature is the perfect setting for inviting kids to return to their inner truths. In this centering and empowering week of camp we will be exploring mindfulness, meditation, dance, sacred art, earth skills, music, compassion, and Earth-based ceremonies. Children will come away with practice choosing kindness over anger, peace over anxiety, and love over fear. They will also come away with a unique altar cloth dyed using local plants and leaf prints.
