Skits, Scenes, and In-betweens - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
Students will learn the fine art of comedic acting in these humorous and fun short scenes. Getting to choose from a variety of short skits, the performers will learn about comic timing and delivery as they rehearse for a final presentation. INSTRUCTOR JOHN WALDRON received his BFA in theatre from Virginia Commonwealth University. As an actor, director, and instructor, he has been working in the region for over 20 years. He has directed shows at Aldersgate and MVCCT. John can be seen in the motion picture Talk To Me starring Don Cheadle and was featured on Investigative Discovery show Who The Bleep!. College Counseling Mini-Camp for non-Derryfield Students - The Derryfield School
For rising seniors who do not attend Derryfield, students will work with Derryfields Director of College Counseling, to get ahead of the college process before school starts. Each morning, students will work on drafting their college essay. In the afternoon students will refine their college list, work on the common application, and practice interviewing skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear directly from college admission officers. Working with well known movie and Broadway songs, children will learn the fundamentals of singing. Each class will explore warming up and vocal technique with age appropriate tunes and vocal games. Children will also learn musical theatre performance techniques which will culminate in numbers performed for family and friends at the end of the year performance. Songs will be chosen from the classic Disney songbook through newer Broadway favorites. Past performance pieces have included such favorites as "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman" from Frozen, "Evrybody Wants to Be a Cat" from Disneys The Artistocats and "Choose Me" from The Castaways.
