Session 1H - Voyagers - Camp Butano Creek
This is a two-session program: spend the first session experiencing intensive training activities with your peers. This session includes: discovering your leadership potential; enhancing your skills in group dynamics and communication; understanding the delivery of camp programs and operations; and traditional camp activities including a special outing. Voyagers go home on July 16th to rest up and return on either July 21st (2nd session) or August 4th (3rd session) as an Apprentice Counselor, joining our camp staff during pre-camp for final camp training and preparations. In your assigned unit, put your new knowledge and skills to work as an Apprentice Counselor. Voyager registration is not complete until the following has been completed and returned: camper registration; Voyager application and questionnaire; and three references. Final placement is subject to evaluation by Voyager staff. Spaces are LIMITED, sign up early! Preference will be given to Voyagers entering 12th grade. If there are openings after March 1, those entering 11th grade will be considered. Plus Package also includes a hooded, pullover sweatshirt and a handy postage-paid stationery/pen set for ease in writing home. 925 216-4146
Junior Adventurers: Outdoor Explorers - Junior Adventurers!
Calling all junior adventurers for another summer of discoveries! In this half-day camp, your sons will enjoy all that The Heights campus has to offer. With beautiful stands of native tree species, numerous bird boxes, and a room full of past discoveries, there will be no lack for exciting new areas of learning. Two days will be dedicated to the animal kingdom – mammals, insects, reptiles and more. Another will focus on seeds and plants. – we cant live without them! Two days will also be devoted to experiments and discovery, bringing their knowledge to life. In the course of daily adventures around campus, campers will climb the trees theyve heard about and capture the insects theyve drawn. With a take-home booklet filled with artistic learning exercises, your son will be drawing on his discoveries from this camp for years to come! Hover Craft- Design Your Own Vehicle- Egg Drop Car - Do you want to design and build things that you create- not just a model you purchase? Well this is the place for you. Build and keep an air powered Hover Craft. You make it defy gravity. Once its up and moving, then using your creativity, control its direction. Get to build and take home your own car. The purpose is to build a super car powered by more than one source of energy. This can be one crazy looking vehicle. We provide you with many materials for that dynamic vehicle that you will build. Also get to build a Egg Drop Car. The purpose is to build a gravity vehicle that can cushion a raw egg as the car holding the egg is dropped from a high height. We provide you with the material to cushion the fall. You have to be creative. In these three challenges in one workshop, you will learn about Laws of Motion, Energy, Air Pressure, Friction, Lift, Speed and Acceleration. Whether you are an accomplished young artist or someone who thinks they cant do any art, we promise you are in for a hands-on 3 dimensional fun experience with wood burning, tie-dyeing with Indigo, printmaking, weaving and felting and that is truly EXTREME! We will teach you to use a special pyrography (wood burning) tool and to draw designs, patterns and texture into wood, leather and dried gourds. The ancient Greeks called it writing with fire. After the design is burned in, shading and coloring can be added. You will discover the art of printmaking, how to use a printing press, carve linoleum blocks into stamps, and create a masterpiece using natural items and a collagraph abstract print. Go back in time as you dye fibers using natural indigo and tie-die your camp t-shirt to the EXTREME! Create Native American inspired medicine pouches through a felting process and weave your own tapestry using card or hand looms from simple to complex. This soccer camp focuses on improving players through fun, dedicated games and activities. Players will be actively engaged the entire time they are attending the camp. Character education is also an important part of the camp. All camps are for boys and girls. Players will be grouped by age and ability. *Each child must bring appropriate shoes for the field and for the gym, a water bottle with his/her name on it, and an appropriately sized ball. 845-649-3077
