Art in nature is everywhere, whether youre looking at the veining on a dragonflys wings or scrutinizing the filaments of a birds feather. In this camp well use all our senses and some helpful tools to explore natures gallery searching for inspiration for our own works of art. Using clay, paints, found materials, herbs, wood, sand and bits of fallen sky, campers will let their imagination run wild as they learn about the natural world and express themselves creatively. Youth Curator Camp Virginia Museum of Natural History Saturday, December 19 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Curator Camp is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about the museum while participating in fun, hands-on activities and programs. Parents and guardians – this is a great opportunity for your children to experience a day of scientific adventure and discovery while you finish up any last-minute holiday shopping! Campers will meet the museum’s scientists and learn about real museum collections. There will be demonstrations of the casting and molding program, with children having the opportunity to create, paint and take home their very own fossil cast! In addition to these unique activities, campers will enjoy pizza and a movie in the museum’s Education Center. Learn to Ride a Bike - Bear Creek Park
This is one of the most exciting camps because kids experience the joy of pedaling independently for the first time! This half day camp is perfect for the younger child who is still on training wheels or going from push bike to pedal bike. Our goal is to get them riding their own bike on two wheels by the end of the week using specific techniques, patience, and fun. You can come with training wheels on their bike if that is what they are used to riding. Or, if they are going from a push bike to a pedal bike, just make sure they have a bike that fits - no training wheels need to be added. We will work toward removing all training wheels as the week progresses. Please bring a helmet, 2 snacks, a water bottle, rain gear and closed toe shoes.
