We are excited to announce we will be having our first ever Youth Art Camp!! This will be a 3 day camp for 2 hours a day from 10am -12pm. Each day your child will learn a different form of art and create their own masterpiece to bring home. We will also provide a light snack each day. This will be a great learning opportunity for each child with a creative mind. I will have limited spaces. The fee for this camp is $60 a child for all 3 days. If you think you would be interested in signing up your child you may call the store @ 256-754-5018 and place a $20 non refundable deposit to hold your childs spot. The remaining balance will be due on march 21st. This camp will be offered to any school aged child. If there are any questions please feel free to call or message me.

St. Catherine's Koinonia 3 (SCK3) - Panora, IA
Mark your calendars! It's not-quite-but-almost that time of year again! St. Catherine of Siena will be having its third annual Koinonia retreat at the end of February next year (2016). What's Koinonia? It's a Greek word that means 'community'. This student-led retreat helps students grow in their friendship with the community as well as their relationship with God. More details will come soon, but for a general idea of what's going on, here's a bare-bones schedule: -Friday, Feb. 26: we leave St. Kate's and carpool to the St. Thomas More Retreat Center in Panora, IA in the late afternoon and stay for two nights and what turns out to be two days which we spend in prayer and fellowship with one another -Sunday, Feb. 28: we leave Panora in the late morning/early afternoon and return to DSM Applications will be available in the near future. The cost for the retreat is $25 (financial aid is available to those who need it) and more details will come as we get closer to February. And feel free to invite your friends! You don't have to be Catholic to come!

Knowing how to break down a word which has been formed from Greek or Latin can help a student not only build a working vocabulary, but also help a student construct a basic meaning for a new or unfamiliar word. Students who learn this skill see their vocabularies grow and their anxiety lessen. As students who enter college are faced with not only increased amounts of reading, but also increased difficulty in those readings, having the skill to navigate these readings, assignments, and exams makes academic success much more easily attainable. Our summer class will investigate and analyze Greek and Latin cognates so that students may increase their vocabulary and learn how to decode an unfamiliar word, providing a vital foundation for testing, reading, and writing confronted in upper school and university academic life. 773-881-6700
