Kid's Campout with the Prickly Pear Living History Museum - San Antoni
Do you want to help your kids build a connection to nature, but aren’t sure how? Do you struggle to get them away from screens? On March 19th and 20th Government Canyon State Natural Area and the Prickly Pear Living History Museum will be co-hosting a camping event for kids ages 10-16 and their parents. No screens allowed, but no one will be bored. Instead, we’ll talk about how local Native Americans survived and thrived in the same places we now call our home. For hands-on learning we’ll have reproduction tools, weapons, and natural resources for everyone to explore. Along the way, kids discover how to be hike leaders and why it’s important to be good caretakers of the land. We’ll provide most of the equipment. Maximum of two kids and two adults per group, so that more kids can enjoy the experience. Space is limited to 12 people. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! Our last event filled up fast. Teens, you are invited to join us the Winter Teen Camp! This year’s theme is “authentic” and we will be focusing on how to live authentically as children of our Creator. Adventure Camp - Week 7 - The Greenwell Foundation
Adventure Camp is for children ages 8 – 12 (by first day of camp session). Why is Adventure Camp different? Campers are provided the opportunity to explore further into the park with longer hikes, shelter building, and learning how to build a campfire – and then Smores! Part of Adventure Camp is letting the group direct what activities they would like to do by coming up with new and exciting adventures. The staff has the freedom to be creative when making these fun adventures come to life. Campers will have an opportunity to kayak twice during the week, including a visit to the Hollywood Oyster Company. They will create and run their own unique obstacle course, go fishing and crabbing from the pier, and build their own boats out of recycled materials and test to see if they are sea-worthy. Mid-week, campers will hike to the Manor House area where they can build forts with bamboo, explore the gardens, play water games and capture the flag, visit the Barn and participate in our Nature Time program. Natures Explorers - Week 2 - Nature Center at Shaker Lakes
Discover how Native Americans survived in Northeast Ohio. Well learn about their traditions, explore their connection to the Earth and practice using a bow and area during an archery lesson. Musical Production: The Lion King - The Evergreen School
Two shows on Friday July 29th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in The Evergreen Theater. Calling actors, singers, and dancers! The Evergreen School Summer Performing Arts Program is putting on a big show and we need your talent! In this two week production, students become members of a small cast, and each day is filled with fun activities that build skills for musical theater. This years show is The Lion King. Every student enrolled receives a copy of the music and the script in advance of rehearsals. Auditions take place on the first day of class. In this production, everyone will be strongly featured with solos for all. On the last day, July 29, in partnership with our Backstage Crew and Costume Crew classes, actors will present two big performances (3:00 pm and 7:00 pm) complete with sets, costumes and lights. Attendance is required for all days of these two weeks and at both shows. This successful summer program has a team of five experienced teaching artists all lead by Evergreens Vanessa Miller. Architectural Adventures - Middle School
Architectural Adventures combines science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts in a uniquely fun and challenging way valuable for young people to enjoy, that allows hands-on learning experiences. Children will be inspired by building upon their natural curiosity to learn about different aspects of modern architecture. For example, a ‘green engineering unit allows students to create, test, and refine architectural designs involving the use of alternative energy and environmental awareness. Students will learn how to build efficient wind powered machines and discover how these machines can help reduce fuel consumption. Throughout the week, students will apply basic engineering design concepts to create, test, and refine a variety of machines and mechanical systems, including cars, planes, and cranes. Students will also learn the basics of fluid dynamics while constructing roller coasters and other vehicles, culminating in the construction of an incredibly fast air powered dragster that students get to keep at the end of the course. Students will also compete in groups to build the highest structure!
