Imagine the great cities of the world and their monumental and powerful architecture. We will create our own architectural firm for the chance to build things in 3D: a hockey rink, football stadium, golf course, art gallery, a museum, a roller coaster theme park, an aquarium, or even the great Roman Coliseum! As future architects, learn about perspective drawing and go outdoors to draw the architecture of Cary Academy. Environmental Art Camp (VSA Tennessee partnership) - Gallatin, TN
Environmental Art Camp is a program created specifically for individuals with disabilities over the age of 13 who are interested in the environment and have a love of art. The camp will be under the direction of VSA Tennessee teaching artist, Dee Kimbrell. During the camp, the young people will learn about environmental issues and their effect on our national parks. Participants will create their own tunnel books that reflect ecosystems within the parks. They will also create a larger tunnel book specific to the Smoky Mountain National Park. This book will be given to the park as a 100th anniversary gift at Tremont in October. The book will remain on site as an educational tool. Incoming 5th and 6th graders will learn the basic usage and safety of HAND TOOLS including a coping saw, file, sanding block, and cordless drill. Some small machines may be used such as the scroll saw, spindle sander, Dremel engraver, and drill press. All activities will be demonstrated and supervised by Mr. Caris, the current Woodworking teacher at NBJH. Students will choose a project from a beginner list. Lacrosse (boys) - Seattle Preparatory School
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in Washington. The Seattle Prep lacrosse camp promises to be the premier camp in Seattle for 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys of all skill and experience levels. The fast-paced camp will feature skill work, station work and scrimmages with a player to coach ratio of one to five, ensuring campers of all levels receive the attention to maximize their experience. Skills Emphasized: Core mechanics of shooting, passing and ground balls - shooting on the run and with time/space - attacking the goal and dodging - individual and team defense - face-off specialization - goalie coaching - game play. Tennis 3 - Brigham Young University
Join BYU mens tennis head coach Brad Pearce for a week of incredible tennis! Learn strategies, tactics and techniques through drills, on-court instruction and singles and doubles play. Players will receive instruction on the fundamentals of all major strokes and will practice these strokes through feeding, live-ball drilling and competitive match-play. Students will hone their skills as they have an opportunity to advance through each of five stations that are set up to practice every aspect of their game. They will also have an opportunity to improve their fitness and participate in competitive off-court games that focus on enhancing their flexibility through stretching, agility and endurance. In addition, they will play competitive matches in both singles and doubles. This is excellent preparation for anyone interested in participating in high school tennis or preparing to compete in USTA leagues and/or tournaments. On Friday of each week, all participants will play in an individual singles tournament against players that are at their level. Trophies are awarded for the winners and runner-ups, but all will play multiple matches. The camp concludes after the tournament on Friday with an awards ceremony.
