Global Scientists - Middle School
Nearly one billion people on our planet lack access to clean water. Thats one billion people who cant drink from a faucet, shower or cook a meal without risk of illness - or worse! In this course, students will collaborate with a Global Partner Student from a developing country to help quench the thirst of the world. Through video message exchanges they will learn about each other and explore how water is used in each others culture, study the chemical properties of water and the water cycle, and then use the engineering design process to build, test and tweak biodomes, water towers, and water filtration systems to better understand how water systems can be polluted and purified. As their understanding of the subject matter grows, students will work closely with their Global Partners to develop a hands-on research project that shows the water problems each of their countries face while sharing practical ways to address these problems and help bring clean water to the world! Book & Movie Inspired Art (P.M.) with Pam Peters - Westerly Creek Elementary (Art Room)
Teacher: Pam Peters Childrens stories and movies will be the springboard for creating unique pieces of art. Projects will include collage, painting and clay. Ahoy Mateys! ARRRRrrr you looking for some adventure this summer? Just look for the mighty Jolly Roger flag! This week is full of pirate excitement, including many pirate stories and dramatic play. Campers will also make their own pirate costumes, treasure maps and search for buried treasure. They will have a swashbuckling good time and if they are brave enough, they may have a chance to walk the plank! See you this summer, me hearties!
