My name is James E. Hampton, and I am the CEO of the Aaron Brooks Foundation Drills and Skills program. The program works collaboratively with Schools and Community Centers to develop comprehensive youth development strategies for underserved, school aged youth. The Aaron Brooks Drills and Skills mission is to empower at-risk youth to become successful citizens by providing a nurturing environment where they will develop their academic, civic, and leadership skills while improving their basketball skills. After-school tutoring as well as lesson-based basketball drills provide these youth with the tools they need to be motivated in school and life. Class Description Sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, pickle ball and other fun fitness games every day! Strength training activities with a certified personal trainer! Fun lessons on health and nutrition with a registered dietitian! Wednesday field trip to Camp Cha-La-Kee from 9am-5p to participate in traditional fun outdoor activities such as: Canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and having fun on the Blob (picture attached)! Dynamite (USASF Levels 2) is one of our beginner teams. Developed as a junior novice/intermediate team, these athletes are 14 years and younger. Skills required include but are not limited to standing back handsprings, working multiples and round off backhandsprings. Naturalists are campers who have attended Ocean or Bay Explorer camp before. They enjoy 2 days at our site, 2 field trips, and 1 day aboard our ship learning about local ecosystems with live animals, hands-on activities, and themed games and crafts. Super Sleuths: Mysteries of Forensic Science Students will be introduced to investigative science while performing a variety of modified forensic techniques. Campers will investigate evidence from simulated crime scenes to develop their observation skills and use deductive reasoning in order to draw evidence-based conclusions.
