This a basketball camp for kids from grades 4 - 8 emphasizing FAITH, FUN AND FUNDAMENTALS. Campers will be organized into groups and teams according to age level and ability in order to provide a positive learning experience. Campers will learn that the quest to develop as a basketball player "mirrors" the quest to develop as a Christian. Each day will begin and end with prayer. The themes for each day applying to both basketball and the Christian Life will be commitment, practice, growth and teamwork. Space is limited to 48 campers and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. EACH CAMPER MUST BRING A PACKED LUNCH EVERY DAY. Sammy Slug Summer Camp, Session #8b, Half Day - Youth Programs
Sammy Slug Summer Camp is offered by the Office of Physical Education, Recreation & Sports (OPERS) for boys and girls entering 1st through 6th grades. Based at the East Field House, this camp is offered in one-week sessions June to August. There are half day and full day options, and pre-camp and post camp care is available. Throughout the week the 5 camp tenants which are Responsibility, Respect, Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Team Building are reinforced and integrated into the curriculum. Camp activities include a variety of sports such as basketball, tennis, frisbee, and soccer; outdoor recreation such as hiking and swimming; and other arts, crafts and outings to keep the campers engaged, active and creative. With a camper to staff ratio of 10:1, the camp focuses on creating a safe environment with a program designed, implemented, and staffed by experienced recreation professionals and UCSC students.
