Great Outdoors Mini Camp June 27th-June 30th Its back to nature in this camp and we mean literally! If it has to do with nature and the great outdoors we are all over it! These days kids seem to be losing touch with nature, so in this camp we are going to bring them back to the wild side. Kids will leave civilization behind as we head out into the great unknown to learn all about nature and surviving the outdoors. Campers will get the ins and outs of navigating trails, compass use, telling time by the sun, identify animal tracks, interact daily with animals, make fossils, build a drift shelter, survival skills, make Native American crafts, outdoor cooking (more than just smores) and so much more. Mandell Cubs, a program for children ages 18 - 24 months, offers a gentle introduction to school. During the fall months, children explore the wonders of the classroom with their grown-up close by, in this non separation portion of the year. Then, in January, after the children are fully acclimated to school and have bonded with their teachers, Mandell Cubs becomes a separation program. Through use of art and playtime, music and movement, science and storytime, we build on a childs natural sense of curiosity to enrich their emotional, physical and intellectual development. Instructor: Twila Brock Beginning and advanced beginner students will have the opportunity to continue developing their skills in the various approaches to throwing functional ware on the wheel under the guidance of Twila Brock who specializes in this area. Instruction will be focused on basic techniques. Forms will be thrown, altered, and assembled to create various vessels. Projects will be tailored to the students skill level. Glazing techniques will also be addressed. Students must provide a clean towel each week.
