WHAT IS GIRLS ROCK CAMP? Girls Rock Camp is an intensive one-week day camp offered to girls ages 6-15 at The Garden Street Academy, M-F, 9-3 pm, where campers of all skill levels have the opportunity to learn guitar, bass, drums, vocals, or other instruments. Campers will also form a band, write an original song, and perform at the Final Showcase for friends, families, and fans! In addition to all this, campers will have the opportunity to meet other girls and female musicians and mentors, as well as participate in enrichment activities such as workshops on media literacy or screen-printing. CAMP DETAILS Musical Theater: Featuring Songs from The Sound of Music Join Maria and the Von Trapp children on a musical journey in this fun-filled camp! Campers will rehearse scenes and songs from Sound of Music for an end-of-the-week performance for family and friends. Drama games with friends, singing and dancing, acting out characters...these are a few of our favorite things! You wont want to say "So Long, Farewell" after this week! Children spending the full day with us should bring a sack lunch for our lunch break at the park Reporting Live from Andersonville! In this camp, students will explore the concepts of creating their own news show. From interview skills, anchoring and broadcasting, choosing news topics that interest the campers, and even camera skills, campers will get the entire experience of building a news show. They will work together as an ensemble to build their broadcast while interviewing Andersonville merchants and customers of local businesses to get more of the story! 773-944-9146

Youll dive so deep into storytelling that it will make your head spin as you work with an award-winning filmmaker, writer of comic books, animations, and screenplays; teacher at film schools, universities, and PIXAR Animation Studio. With him youll be conversing about the basics of story telling, listening to them, watching them on tapes, and improvising them. By the end of the week, you will have a giant bag of great storytelling tools and techniques for however you want to use them: acting, telling, writing, or knowing why youve just witnessed one. Watkins Mill Nature Center - EcoAdventures
Wednesday, July 20th 9-4pm, $80 (ages 6-11) *limited to 13 due to van space Watkins Mill Nature Camp: We have an exciting day lined up for campers at the Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro. Campers will visit the Watkins Nature Center for an hour interpretive program on birds of prey. Live animals on display include insects, amphibians, reptiles and birds of prey. The nature center also features indoor and outdoor ponds, a songbird feeding area, a butterfly/hummingbird garden, composting area, an outdoor nest box exhibit, and a squirrel gym that showcases the parks squirrel population. Campers will pack a picnic lunch and have time play on the storybook themed playground. After lunch, we will visit the Old Maryland Farm, an agricultural educational farm open to the public. Its agricultural exhibits, livestock, and display gardens provide a farming experience to visitors.
