This program is for children in grades 1-4th and all skill levels. The philosophy behind the program is to teach basic skills and fundamentals, develop athletic skills, make new friends, and most importantly have fun! The program stresses good sportsmanship at all times. All equipment will be provided. This is a good program to put your child in if theyre baseball, football, basketball, and/or hockey players. Many of the physical skills worked on during the camp will crossover to those sports. All equipment is provided. The camp is coached by Stoughton High School Coach Josh Wollin and assistants. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please contact the Recreation Department for late registration availability. Kid's Campout with the Prickly Pear Living History Museum - San Antoni
Do you want to help your kids build a connection to nature, but aren’t sure how? Do you struggle to get them away from screens? On March 19th and 20th Government Canyon State Natural Area and the Prickly Pear Living History Museum will be co-hosting a camping event for kids ages 10-16 and their parents. No screens allowed, but no one will be bored. Instead, we’ll talk about how local Native Americans survived and thrived in the same places we now call our home. For hands-on learning we’ll have reproduction tools, weapons, and natural resources for everyone to explore. Along the way, kids discover how to be hike leaders and why it’s important to be good caretakers of the land. We’ll provide most of the equipment. Maximum of two kids and two adults per group, so that more kids can enjoy the experience. Space is limited to 12 people. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! Our last event filled up fast. Ok, you arent thinking shells are ferocious are you? Youre thinking theyre beautiful and graceful? Well lightning whelks are beautiful and ferocious. Theyre also pretty fascinating! Lets snip open a lightning whelk egg case (youve probably seen one but didnt know what it was) and look at the hundreds of tiny whelks and the way they grow in a spiral. Lets do some spiralling art and dig down in the sand and pump water out the way whelks do. And lets look at how these creatures hunt! And for all you lefties out there, this is your shell!
