Pre-teen Improv Summer Camp (Session 1) - Norfolk, VA
This camp is open to children ages 7 to 12. Students will explore the key elements of both long and short form improvisation. The children will play numerous improv games which will serve to develop and enhance their public-speaking, social, and team-building skills. This camp will be conducted in a non-judgmental environment where the students will build confidence, make friends, and most importantly… have fun. Snacks will be provided on a daily basis and there will be a pizza-party for lunch on Friday. Students will explore simple robotics using LEGO WeDo. Each week they will build models, attach sensors and motors that are plugged into a computer, and configure behaviors using simple programming. Four themes will be introduced including: Amazing Mechanisms, Wild Animals, Play Soccer and Adventure Stories. As students advance through the program extension projects can be added for those who are ready for more challenging projects. We will visit the National Constitution Center for a special, opening day tour of the traveling exhibit, Headed to the White House. The new exhibit is designed to take visitors from the campaign trail to Inauguration Day, as it explores all aspects of a U.S. presidential election through a variety of media including role-playing opportunities, artifact exploration and more. The multi-faceted experience gives visitors both the opportunity to learn about past candidates in iconic historical elections and to also become a candidate themselves in a simulated presidential election experience. A tasty, mid-morning snack will be served. Upon our return to TPS, students will have the opportunity to design their own campaign button. Please pack a lunch (including a beverage) in a disposable bag. For the safety of our students, please DO NOT INCLUDE PEANUT BUTTER or any nuts in your childs lunch.
