Folk Art Around The World with Nellie Shevelkina Go Global! Learn about different cultures through their arts. We will travel from Africa to the Americas, Europe to Asia, Australia and in between discovering traditional folk arts from around the world. Explore the history, techniques, and special meanings of various crafts while noticing similarities and differences in their designs, patterns, and styles. We will create mosaics, painted and printed fabrics, sand paintings, mask making, paper maché figurines, paper cutouts, clay whistles, just to name a few. Students are encouraged to research their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds and proudly share these artistic traditions with the class. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic hand tools, especially hammers, mallets, cutters, files, pliers and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to create works in metal. This camp will explore subjects such a s animal behavior, biology, food chain, and the importance of biodiversity and conservation. Under close adult supervision there will be hands on interaction with real, live animals. Each day will feature a new animal friend, such as a reptile, amphibian, mammal, bird, or arthropod. General Camp Information: Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration Fee: $220 Includes: Five full days of camp, a field trip, activities, materials, daily snacks, and a camp T-shirt. Campers are required to bring a bag lunch each day. Where and When: Our Summer Camp will be held at our Orlando facility in our Education Center room. Campers will be able to enter through the Education Center door which is located to the left of the Business Office and Clinic entrances. Camp staff will be greeting campers between 8:30 and 9:00a.m. Please be prompt! On field trip days, we may be leaving as little as 15 minutes after camp begins.
