Middle school students are invited to attend our Junior High camp! Middle school is a period of life where youth are learning about themselves and about others. Theres no greater place for young people to do that than at camp. Campers will spend the week playing exciting games like 9 Square in the Air, singing their favorite camp songs, reconnecting with old friends while making new one, canoeing and so much more. As a certified educator working in the public schools I can attest that Camp Birch Hill is an excellent opportunity for students to increase their social skills, learn how to collaborate, and most importantly, have FUN! Mon, July 11, 2016 - Fri, July 15, 2016 Summer Art Camp at the SCGA Morning Classes: 9:00am - 12:00pm: Fun in the Mud (Ages 4-7) In this beginner’s pottery class students will be introduced to different kinds of clay, the pottery wheel, a variety of hand-building skills and colorful glazes. We will draw inspiration for our creations from children’s stories as we combine art, storytelling and play in this unique class offering. Space is the Place (Ages 4-7) “Houston, we have lift off!” Join us for a week of activities designed to engage our youngest students through both visual art and science. We will learn about rockets, the Milky Way, black holes, the solar system, our unique moon and more through painting, sculpture, and mixed media art projects. Modern Masters (Ages 8-12) introduces children to the wonderful world of Van Gogh, Cézanne, Dali, Chagall and Matisse. Using famous works of art to understand the artist’s styles, children reproduce their own artwork. These lessons are classic examples of how mixing art history with simple, foundational techniques can create the most beautiful works of art. Rogue Robots: LEGO Robotics Camp - San Angelo, TX
Robots aren’t just inventions in a galaxy far, far away— they exist here on Earth, at your local library! Join us this Winter Break for a Star Wars-themed robotics camp. Each day we’ll watch a clip from the movies, and build a LEGO robot inspired by the film. The library will be hosting two four-day camps—attending all four days is not mandatory, but each class will build upon the previous classes. No prior experience in LEGO robotics necessary, but seating is limited so RSVP is required. This course will focus on learning the basics of the woodwind, brass or percussion instrument of each students choice. Learning activities will center around small group instruction with like instruments, music theory and games, and a group rehearsal with all instruments combined. The week will conclude with a short informance by all band members. Open to students entering 5th grade who have no previous experience on a band instrument. This camps highly skilled staff is comprised of the best local professional players, collegiate players, and high school coaches. Come spend a week enjoying the game of basketball in a constructive environment with us! Tech Explorers: Robotics and iPad® Stop-Motion Movies - Bethel Christian Center
Students explore robotics using LEGO® components and then use iPad®s and special effects apps to make a stop-motion movie. In the morning, campers build machines with LEGO® elements and then program and use them to uncover clues to solve a mystery. Theyll use motors to power projects and sensors to detect movement and trigger actions. Programming is easy with LEGO® WeDo® software - students drag and drop blocks on the screen to create the instructions to run their machines. Each student has their own kit and computer to use. Projects include building an airplane controlled through a keyboard, building a sensor-activated sliding door, making an amusement park ride controlled with a tilt sensor, and more. In the afternoon, students work in teams to create a stop-motion movie starring LEGO® minifigures and sets that they create using LEGO® components. Students record the movie frame-by-frame on an iPads®, add exciting titles, visual and sound effects, and background music in the Pinnacle Studio editing app!
