Do you want to help your kids build a connection to nature, but aren’t sure how? Do you struggle to get them away from screens? On March 19th and 20th Government Canyon State Natural Area and the Prickly Pear Living History Museum will be co-hosting a camping event for kids ages 10-16 and their parents. No screens allowed, but no one will be bored. Instead, we’ll talk about how local Native Americans survived and thrived in the same places we now call our home. For hands-on learning we’ll have reproduction tools, weapons, and natural resources for everyone to explore. Along the way, kids discover how to be hike leaders and why it’s important to be good caretakers of the land. We’ll provide most of the equipment. Maximum of two kids and two adults per group, so that more kids can enjoy the experience. Space is limited to 12 people. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! Our last event filled up fast. Farm Hands 2nd & 3rd Grade (AM Session) - Weir River Farm
Farm Hands Camp is one of our most popular programs all year and we know why. Whether it is mucking out the stalls, collecting eggs, working in the garden or learning how to halter a sheep, there is never a dull moment on the farm! Although activities can vary depending on the day and age of the participants, we always try to instill the message that we are responsible for our own health, the health of our animals and for the care of this special place. Each day your child can expect to participate in chores in both the barnyard and garden. Of course, no Farm Hands experience would be complete without making new friends, games and nibbling fresh veggies fresh from the garden. We offer two types of programs. First, we have age specific programs. These sessions are a good fit for children that have attended camp year in and year out and like to have different age appropriate themes that build each year. They are also a great opportunity for children to meet other campers that are the same age and may be in school or other community programs with them. Evaluation Camp: Check in 8:00 - 9:00 AM. Camp Hours will be 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. We will take a 30 min lunch break around 12:30 PM. The morning will consist of a pro-style workout that will assess running, throwing, and fielding tools. The afternoon will consist of Batting Practice and pitchers throwing to hitters in a game format.
