Make real stuff - Think it and build it! TinkerCAD is an easy-to-learn cloud-based technology that lets you create 3D models to later 3D print or export to Minecraft. Students have fun while learning spatial thinking. The instructor Nicola Hoelz is a professional graphic artist and has studied 3D modeling and animation. The school will provide the laptops and internet access. At signup, please provide one parents email address for an account at Autodesk 123D. During the first one or two club meetings we will follow the online lessons, learning to navigate and create models. This course will focus on learning the basics of the woodwind, brass or percussion instrument of each students choice. Learning activities will center around small group instruction with like instruments, music theory and games, and a group rehearsal with all instruments combined. The week will conclude with a short informance by all band members. Open to students entering 5th grade who have no previous experience on a band instrument. We will create mosaics, painted and printed fabrics, sand paintings, mask making, paper maché figurines, paper cutouts, clay whistles, just to name a few. Students are encouraged to research their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds and proudly share these artistic traditions with the class. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves.
