More than ever before, kids face an abundance of pressures and stress. Mindfulness practices, such as yoga, meditation and breathwork, can give children the tools they need to navigate their life in a way that is true and authentic to them. During this special week of yoga camp, we will explore the many gifts that yoga has to give. Children will participate in activities that empower and center them, foster a strong sense of self, and connect them to the greater community. Are you an avid sports fan? Do you wish there were more opportunities to read about sports in school? Heres your chance for middle school students to read about their favorite sports athletes/teams while practicing and strengthening reading comprehension and writing skills. This class will explore universal themes found in sports such as perseverance, determination, work ethic, understanding commitment, setting and achieving goals, and overcoming obstacles, through various sports literature including newspaper/magazine articles, biographies, excerpts from nonfiction books, and poetry. In this hands-on investigation, kids will learn how a computer works by building a simple Raspberry Pi computer. Once the building is done, the fun continues while kids create their own versions of simple games and code in Minecraft on the computer they just built. We will have plenty of time off the computer as well when kids have the chance to learn and test game design and programming through active play.
